Hello guys, first of all im new here so let me introduce myself. I got a 01 ZX3 late this summer and haven't had a problem yet, at least until a days ago when i was leaving work i started my car and noticed after all the cluster lights lite up and what would be normal all turn off the ABS and the Brake light did not turn off. I went to my owners manual to check if there was any major problems so that i could get home to check this out further, and found that the ABS is disabled but normal braking is still engaged.

Well what i am trying to get to is that has anyone else ran into this problem or know what to do?

I had did issue before. Take off your front tires and check the ABS lines that run to the spindle (behind brake rotor) and run your finger over them.

They tend to kink and they will throw your ABS light on. Just buy new ones, or splice them at the kink and use wire nuts and some tape to put them back together.

oh yeah thats right they use a crappy actron tester that only does P-codes.

I think there is a way to pull the codes manually from the car.

try turning the car off. hold the trip reset button on the dash in and turn the car into the on position DO NOT START. I think that might get your codes retrieved.

here is a list of ABS codes:

Bumping this old thread rather than starting a new one.

I too am having the same problem. Started the car one day and the ABS and Brake light came on.

I searched and seem to have done everything that people suggested: brake fluid levels are topped off, I pulled all four of the wheel speed sensors off and cleaned them and their connections, tire pressure is fine on all fours, and the #46 fuse is perfectly fine.

I did the manual code check that JRODSVT suggested, and all it pulled up was an upside down "F" - E - S (or 5, not sure) - upside down "F". I'm sorta at a loss here, any suggestions? Would the dealer pull the codes for free? I too think Auto Zone can only pull P codes, this appears to be a C code.

JEIMER see above post. It's most likely a problem with one of the wheel speed (ABS) sensor circuits. The wiring for the sensors is "weatherproof" but they are pretty exposed in the wheelwells, it's the only wiring you'll see back there behind the wheels. Visually check things out and you may find a problem, disconnect at the plug near the top of the wheelwell to check out the actual terminals. You might try calling around to different parts stores to have the code read, that would be the most informative thing to narrow it down. Most don't have scan tools that can read brake codes but I know I've had luck once. That's why I say call around.
