Check fuel cap and check engine lights

Hi, I am new here and I drive an 07 Focus SE sedan (4.5k miles now).

Yesterday, the check fuel cap light got on during a road trip (150 miles after a gas refill). I stopped the car, checked the cap and fastened it. However, the check engine light was lit after I started the car. (The check fuel cap light was still on).

I suspected it was the fuel cap problem that turned the check engine light on.

After about 50 miles of driving this morning, the check fuel cap light was finally off. But the check engine light is still on after another 100 mile trip with 2 stops and one gas refill.

Should I keep driving for another day to see whether the check engine light will be reset or go to AdvancedAutoParts to read the OBD code?

You're fine as long as you made sure the cap was on securely. Since the check fuel cap light went off, it'll be fine to clear the CEL. Unhook the battery's negative terminal for about ten minutes then hook it back up. The OBD-II code will be cleared and the check engine light will turn off.

Good to go!
