I drive a 2000 ZX3, automatic. A few days ago I was experiencing an odd problem. When I started the car and pressed on the brakes to put it in drive, the trunk would pop open. I sat in disbelief pressing on the brake and listening to the release mechanism clicking. I also notied that pressing the remote trunk release button on my keychain would cause the brake lights to shine momentarily and also open the hatch. 2 days ago when I started the car and pressedon the brake to put it in drive, the trunk did not open, but the transmission refused to budge. As per the manual, it suggested that if this occurred, the brake light fuse might be blown. I replaced the fuse and I have been able to shift, no problem. Now the middle brake light does not go on when I step on the brakes (but the trunk doesn't open). Also the inside trunk release nor the remote will work. When I use the remote for the hatch, only the middle brake light comes on. I've traded one problem for another. I dont see any logical reason the electrical systems for the brakes and trunk would be connected. Any ideas how to fix this?
