forced induction review thread

Seeing as there are so many foci out there now with some form of forced induction and many others coming i thought it would be a good idea for those who have it to write a small rewiew on thiers to help others who are making the FI decision in the future.
1. what type of FI you have (toms full kit, jackson racing ect...)
2. How long have you had it (miles and months)
3. Total cost
4. HP/TQ and and of boost(psi)
5. a small review including any problems you have encountered or what you would have done differently.

mods- vf lower mount, steeda sri, udp's,screamin demon ignition, 65mm tb,xcal-2 with waynes tune, steeda sts, front and rear strut bars.

2. 1000 miles
3. $2795 shipped to my door
4. Advertised at about 170whp/150wtq with stock exhaust and stock internals.
5. Install isn't hard at all. You just need to have all the tools they list in the install manual and be very methodical on your approach when installing each part.

I numbered each item in the install manual and checked them off as I completed it.

I wanted a SC/Turbo that looked good under the hood and was close to being CARB legal.
Also, this is my daily driver and I don't need gobs of power.
I also didn't want to exceed the stock clutch limits of 165TQ.

The JRSC+BBK also comes with a tune, which was needed for me because no one within the local area has tuned a Focus and really didn't seem interested since these shops usually work on muscle cars or exotics.

The JRSC+BBK woke up my car and it pulls all the way to redline.
It's definitely a funner car to drive and has a nice whine too from the SC.
The rev limiter is still at stock 6800 but the speed limiter is raised.

Only issue I had was some detonation at times but I found that my fuel injector rails wasn't seating all the way due to a fin on the SC. I had to file the fin down about 3-5mm and now the deto is gone.

Just reading.....

I thought there was a similar thread like this started a little while back?

1. Powerworks SVT s/c kit (development prototype)
2. Installed early June '05. 15K miles as of Jan '06
3. $4950 MSRP for the SVT, $3950 MSRP currently for the 5spd & auto
4. 250 WHP/200 ft-lbs at 12-13 psi on local 93 octane. 220 WHP/180 ft-lbs at 10-11 psi for the 5spd. 200 WHP/170 ft-lbs at 10-11 psi for the auto.
5. Lots of low-end torque. Pulls hard and linearly all the way to the rev limit. Excellent driveability on the street and track. Low/mid 20's MPG in mixed driving and mid/upper 20's on highway trips.

1) Custom Manifold with the Garret GT28RS... the intercooler and all other piping are from Tom

2) Installed around June 05

3) ALOT... but also had some "other" work done

4) 329whp and 278wtq running 19psi on 93 octane and STOCK internals

5) Low 20's mixed driving, 30-32 on the way back from Toms... ALL highway 400 miles through the Appilacian mountains.

As soon as the gas is hit it starts making boost... 3-5psi instantly 19psi around 4- 4.5K, Pulls like a MAD MAN all the way to redline.... seriously this things INSANE. With big power a Quaife is a MUST!!!

Driving up a mountain on the highway.... dont even shift gears.... touch the throttle and the turbo does the rest!!

Spins through 1st, 2nd and 3rd IF I want it too

1. Tom's diy kit with gt3076R turbo
2. about 3 years and 20k miles
3. alot.
4. 292fwhp/242tq 17psi , 351fwhp/308tq 32psi
5. The car has full boost at around 4,800 to 5,000 rpms. Good power from 4,800 to 7,600 rev limiter. The car will blow the tires off in 1st and 2nd gear easily at 17psi. Faster than my brothers 2000 corvette.
problems: 1. at around 290fwhp the fuel pressure drops off, so install kennebell boost-a-pump. 2. The stock intake manifold had problems over 20psi of boost, so install FR intake manifold. 3. had problems with vct, have pectel t2 controlling that now. 4. car does not have traction om 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd with 17psi and higher boost. Still trying to figure out that kind of tires to try out for daily use.
Turbo SVTF, GT3076R 60 trim, custom turbo Kit, built engine with 8.65 compression.361fwhp on 93 octane.

2007 BMW 335i 280rwhp. Stock. 1/4 13.6 @103 mph
97 mustang cobra vortech s-trim 430rwhp 1/4 mile 12.4 @117mph

Re: forced induction review thread

1. tom's stg 1 / tom's mic
2. 38k mi / 20 mo
3. stg 1: 2795; mic: 850; install: 650
4. 200/188 on 93 oct @ ~9psi
5. this car is my daily driver so i needed something reliable that i didnt have to worry about banging around town in. the only limitation of this kit is that it comes with no intercooler. ive found this is really only an issue if youre trying to run all out for extended intervals on a hot summer day down here in fl. even still, toms tune is conservative enough to keep the engine safe and it still pulls hard after all this time. back when i first bought the kit, i had been working for a few years and saved up some money, and i was a little unsure about what i was doing, kinda afraid id end up with a blown engine and an expensive trip back to stock trim. im sure tom remembers he was tuning the car and he looks at me and says 'well what do you think, you havent even said if you liked it yet', my trepidation was obvious. its pretty funny to think back to that and how i felt cause in retrospect this was one of the most rewarding decisions ive made for myself: its been a blast to drive and more importantly ive learned a ton in the process.
boost from
200/188 on 93 @ ~9psi
tom's stg1/mic; stock zetec longblock

2:About a month and a half
3:Appx. $3700 with injectors, tuning is extra.
4:Appx. 275hp and 210ft.lbs of torque. 10lbs of boost
5:Very easy install even for a novice. Pretty much anyone could install it in one afternoon. Wayne at Hypnotic Illusions can do a killer tune for ya.
6:Car was extremely powerful, comes on kind of like nitrous does as far as the power band. If youre considering something like autocross racing, maybe a JRSC would be better, the power comes on too strong for that type of racing. Street, its an awesome supercharger and can be upgraded to appx. 15lbs of boost. Full boost is ava. at about 2500 rpm and up. Got to add this, the Procharger is by far the easiest to install, the JRSC is a real pain in the (you know what) to install and a turbo, about in between the two.

Geez I installed the full (TOM) kit in six (six) hours............Including removing and putting back on the entire front end for the cooler.....hard is defined by the tools you have and the means to use them....My cost is a bit different than most. I will stop at 400 h.p. and am building for that. New block is in my shop now.

1 toms full kit
2. 5 months
3. 4800, or something around there, i didnít need his mic kit
4. 212.04 Hp and 208 Lbs of torque @ 9.5 lbs of boost. can go alot higher
5. It took around 4 months to get to my house, but install was not to bad,. it took me and some friends like 2 full days and 2 nights to get it in and running (but we screwed around alot). But now that it is on and dyno tuned IT IS AWESOME, it is so fast and pulls so hard. Iím running 9.5 lbs of boost and am going to build my internals up before summer so I can run more. I love my kit and would not trade it for the world.
