Dual Exhaust vs 3" Exhaust

when going turbo: if a person prefers the look of a duel exhaust application to a single exit, would this be plausible with the same gains rather than increasing the diameter of the pipe?

^^ this is what I was thinking. Not completely chop up the exhaust system and try to build some custom turbo back rig. Just a simply Y pipe creating a dual without the risk of losing power.

3", that other idea sounds like it wouldn't be worth your trouble.

A single 3" is tried and proven.

IF you did duels....

1) where would the split be
2) what size pipe?

A single 3" pipe will flow more than duel 2" pipe. With a turbo its all about exhaust flow, the faster and less restrictive the better.

but duels look sooooooo good :) I just love the whole duel exhaust idea too much. There has to be a way to make it work without restricting.

the SVTF is a 2.5" exhaust, correct?

well the fact is theres no true dual exhaust in existence on a focus. there are plenty of dual exits though with positions varying on the y-pipe. if you wanted dual exit, take it 3" up to the y and go with 2.25" or 2.5" for the dual exits.

interior area of dual exit 2.5": ~9.8 sq. in.
interior area of dual exit 2.25": ~7.9 sq. in.
interior area of single 3": ~7 sq. in.

Maybe a single entrance / dual exit muffler then, if your stuck on looks. That is what I had on my Z/28 it was fine.

PI*r^2=area of a circle

2" pipe = 3.14 in.^2 * 2= 6.28 in^2
2.25" pipe = 3.98 in.^2 * 2= 7.95 in^2
2.5" pipe = 4.91 in.^2 * 2= 9.82 in^2

3" pipe = 7.07 in.^2

So... you would be better off with dual 2.25" pipes if we are looking at a 3" pipe as optimal flow of single pipes for comparisons.
