that hole is part of the internal wastegate which is used to redirect exhaust gases around the exhaust wheel. what youre looking at is where the downpipe bolts to the exhaust turbine. with the wastegate open(as it is in the pic), exhaust gas would be flowing through the hole and out your downpipe instead of through the blades causing them to move.

so on an external waste gated turbo that hole wouldnt be there.. it would just have exhaust coming through the blades and the exhaust that went through the wastegate would bypass the turbo completely.. correct???... (sorry just tryin to get a full understanding)

The hole in the turbine housing will still be there on a turbo set-up equipped with an external WG. What changes is the flange on the downpipe. An external WG downpipe flange will sit flush on the machined surface of the turbine housing covering up the hole, blocking it off.

Here's a photo of both external and internal WG'd downpipe flanges so you can see that the internal WG version has provisions for that dump hole to expell exhaust gas, and the internal version blocks the dump hole off completely.

Internal..

External...

put the windows down, it helps your gas mileage out compared to with a/c on.

Here's what mommy should have told you to do when you downshift:
1. Step on the clutch
2. Simultaneously slide the shifter into a lower gear and give the throttle a quick, amazingly precise jab to rev the engine to exactly the rpm it needs to be at in the next gear
3. Quickly let out the clutch

Oh sure, It takes a few thousand tries before you get the timing and precision of your jab just right, but the reward is that you no longer suck.
