Thinking of Nitrous. Ideas?

This may be better posted in "General Forced Induction." Anyway, here goes.

Lately, I've been playing around with the idea of going FI on my Zetec. It's got a few miles on it now, most of which I can personally vouch for being gentle highway time. I drive 50 miles a day to work and back, and that's all I really do with it, except for wrenching on it as a hobby.

So far, it's got:
mtx75
AEM short ram, working on a heat shield for it
Some sort of unnamed 4-2-1 header, closely resembles OBX but it's not.
2.5" flex, 2.5" cat, 2.5" exhaust
MSD coil (I know, it was free.)
Motorcraft double platinum plugs

as well as suspension things and other engine-unrelated things.

What's a popular yet financially non-fatal nitrous kit that you guys like? I'd much prefer a wet kit, and I'm not looking for seriously huge gains, just something I can flash at Gateway Motorsports Park a few times a year.

I've heard that Zex fuel hoses are weak and cause fires, I've heard lots of different things. Just some ideas would be much appreciated!

You would also need a tune. Better off going turbo.

If you're set on doing a nitrous setup, look into Nitrous Express.

They're arguably the best at what they do, and their bottle valves have the highest flow on the market because they use a 135* angle. Pretty sure NOS valves have a 90* angle, and ZEX has some goofy multi-angled valve that flows like crap.

That said, I wouldn't run more than a 50 shot personally, but you could push it to a 75 shot. "Shot" indicates the approximate HP gain, usually just a few HP lower.

If all you're using the kit for is the occasional drag, you won't NEED a bottle heater.

All this said, you're better off throwing a turbo on there. If you're handy you can build a kit, or source a bunch of the parts for less than an off the shelf kit. Plus it would be almost as reliable as your car now in almost stock form, plus you have the extra power there all the time. If I've learned one thing, it's that horsepower is addicting... and going to the drag strip on weekends and hitting the spray for a few passes will make you wish you had a turbo for the street and didn't have to keep re-filling the bottle.

Hope that's helpful

Absolutely. I won't even get the kit without also getting tuned.

In my 2008 Ford Focus I ran a nitrous kit I put together piece by piece.
I used ZEX solenoids both fuel and nitrous and dynoed it out to around roughly a 65 hit. The car went 16s N/A and 14s on nitrous. The only think I will say is by time you get all the parts, window switch, WOT switch tuning tach driver etc you could find a used FSWERKS kit that will give you the same result. Also nitrous is expensive to keep refilling. Sure it's power when you want it but you have to heat the bottle check pressure etc it was more trouble than what it was worth really.
