A totally off the wall question

Ok I am not going to do this nor do I eve plan on it, but a friend and I have argued over this question for a long time...

Is it possible to have a supercharger AND a turbocharger on the same engine without having it blow up?

Yes. There is a type of diesal engine.. Very common in buses and big trucks that runs this way for hundreds of thousands of miles. It is complicated , but it works.

True Detroit Diesel engines use the turbo/supercharger both but there also 2 stroke engines where the Zetec or common engines are 4 stroke , Not that that realy matters

To answer your question yes it can be done and has been done

theres a guy here in cincinnati that has both a turbo and a supercharger on his hyndia accent :p ( i bet i spelled that wrong) it's cool you get the whine of the supercharger and the blowoff of the turbo haha

although the guy with that set up admitted that it's not much more powerfull with both, as you can still only run a certain ammount of boost to the block

Yes, it can be done if the engine is built right. More typical of a Diesel like they said.

So how does it work with the twin setup? For example if you get 8 psi boost from the turbo and 8 psi boost from the super, do you only get 8 psi of boost or 16?

Detroits are freakin awesome. They burn oil like champs when they get older, but they scream. I used to work for International a few years back, but I always really liked the detroits and some of the cummins motors better.
