NOS, engine handle it?

I am of coarse looking for more power and had a couple of questions about NOS. I am Vortech Supercharged, will that work well with NOS? How much can my engine handle with NOS on top of SC boost? How much NOS can you safely run throughout most of your powerband, eg: 2000-6000 RPM?

I run a 55 wet shot with a zex kit. I always run at least 93 octane when I spray, but 95% of the time I'm at 100 octane just to be safe. I also spray over 3000 to redline. Make sure you dont hit redline though if you have a rev limiter because then it's bye bye engine. I'd recommend a window switch but I don't run one myself so I guess I'm a hypocrite there.

The previous owner of my kit ran 8 psi with a 75 shot of nitrous, I'm just lacking marbles of that size to up the shot. I managed to put down 175 off of the bottle and 208 running very rich on the nitrous. I can snake another 15-25whp off the bottle in tuning alone, I just haven't had it dyno tuned. I run a standard vortech tune they made with nitrous in mind.

I am running the standard vortech diablosport tune but will switch to SCT and a fresh tune soon. I was thinking of running a 30 shot with a window switch for 2k-6k.. Considering I can buy used NOS kits which type should I look at? How long would a bottle last me if it was on contsant tap with a window switch? How are refills?

I always tell people for safety never to run nitrous under 3,000 rpms. Depending on your area you'll probably pay $4-$6 per lbs. (almost all kits come with a 10lb bottle). What you'll want to do is get a multistage sct chip, and have a setting just for nitrous. You keep referring to NOS, I'm assuming you mean any kit.

You're going to want to run a wet kit (dry will = engine death) I don't spray very often, so a bottle usually lasts me a summer. I recommend a Zex kit because of it's ease of install and it has the wide open throttle switch. I was told you'll get about 10-14 passes on a 1/4 mile track using nitrous (55 shot) and that seems about accurate. A 30 shot will be tiny, you'll be moving up to a 55 in no time I bet. When my head blew, the walls of my pistons were smooth like a babies butt and you could still see the machine lines on top of the pistons. This was at 80,000 miles. 30k of it boosted and 1 nitrous bottle. Honestly I barely notice the 55 other than it revs faster.

Nitrous is a safe power adder. In reality it just revs your engine faster. The bi product is it creates more heat. Spray in the wrong RPM range and create puddling, hit the rev limiter, or generate too much heat, and it'll teach you. Most blown engines are because people were careless with nitrous.
