Here is my delima. Opinions wanted

I have a lightly modded ZX3 with MTX tranny, and want to get some more power out of this thing. I am not going for a street killing speed demon, but something that will respond to my right foot when I step on the gas. I dont want to put a number to it because HP/TQ numbers can mean nothing if it isnt usable. I am looking for more end tq for passing and moving around in traffic. Dont get me wrong I want to be able to put some of those imports in thier place if need be.
So I am looking for some reliable power, no nitrous. I am thinking that a SC might be the easiest more affordable way to go, but looking at the JRSC I dont want my HP to kick in at 7k. I looked into the Powerworks setup and this seems to be a little more of a usable hp/tq curve. I would love to get one of Tom's kits but I think it might be a little to much. If I had to put a number on it my goal is going to be somwhere around 180hp/160tq to the wheels would be nice. I know that is over 200hp at the crank, but if I can get near that it is a far cry from 112hp stock. Anyone think I would be better off just building an NA engine instead.

What SC kit would you all recomend, and is there a small turbo setup that wouldnt over produce power.

Dont get the JRSC unless you get the BBK because its useless without it. The best power for the money ive seen is the Procharger SC. Just bolting a Procharger on youre looking at appx. 100hp gain. That makes the "right foot" pretty responsive.LOl

i wouldnt call a jrsc useless but you would probably be better off with toms stage one or procharger

Well, speaking from useing these things, i would spend between $2300 and $2700 for a supercharger that wont put out but 4.5-5 psi. We have done it a couple times, once on our own car, and its a waste of money for what you get, yes we had one on my sons S2 (check my gallery), and i wouldnt do it again, another $1000 and we could have done a Procharger and had a WAY better setup and much easier to install. But, we did that back when his car was new, and we were very disappointed with the results. It didnt do crap till i had a custom pulley made and installed a 70 mm maf, 30lb. injectors and tuned it, did we get any good performance out of it.

Your post is confusing...
You say you are looking for more TQ but then say that the JRSC HP doesn't kick in until 7K.
So, do you want usable TQ or HP eariler in the rpms ?
7K is the max HP. Take a look at the dyno graph in the thread below.
Also, the TQ kick's in a little over 2K rpms.
The numbers that you gave, 180hp/160tq at the wheels is pretty close to what the JRSC + BBK has to provide.
Someone posted that it puts out about 8psi.
Also note that anything over 165lbs of TQ is pushing your manual tranny specifications.

My first FI venture with the Focus was with a JRSC m45 on a 2002ZX5 auto. what a waste of my time and money...very disappointing...

If I had it to do all over again I would have gone right to Tom's kit.... Which I have now... ...dial in whatever power you want to make.

i only say toms stg 1 because the turbo spools at a low rpm and it isnt really that expensive. and is tuneable up to 225 hp
