Exhaust sizing

Getting opinions,

Turbo Turtle told me that 3 inch exhaust was standard for turbo builds. However I am seeking a bevy of opinions. 3 inch cost more all around. Can I use 2.5 successfully on my build considering that the most we would ever efficiently run is 10 psi and probably not that. 7 to 8 psi is more likely.

2.5 is fine. FSWerks only offers 2.5 in. I run that with a 3in. Dp. If I had the resources I would love to make a custom 3in just because.

Tubing Kits - Ford - 00-07 Ford Focus - TruBendz Technology

I don't see 3" costing any more than 2.5".
But keep in mind that there may be slight fitment issues with TrueBendz kits. Most have had no issues, some have. For the money and yours being a custom application, I'd chance it.

I had my local exhaust guy bend up my 3" and it didn't break the bank.

Was reading the focus builders handbook. Talk about some interesting data. They paralleled the minimalistic gains from going up from 2.5 to 3 inch. Quite interesting.

atleast 2.5 " cat converter or Orp, The FLex and catback should be 3" once you get to the 275+ HP range. According to alot of the online performance charts.

Minimal gains yes, but the higher HP motor you have the more gains you will get. It won't hurt anything thats for sure. The whole "YOU NEED BACKPRESSURE is BS" Unless you have a custom engineered high flow venturi effect catback design by some master engineer. I think the GTR Nismo has one that also uses titanium fins to help cooling. Probably a $6000 exhaust.

I plan to stay on stock engines. Parts are cheap and rebuilds are dirt cheap.

Here is another site for exhaust, looks like they changed it up a bit, but it's run by the same company. Only this site comes with different options for mufflers and resonators including different sizes.

I wouldnt put much stock into the " focus builders handbook " a lot of it is a bunch of crap and the numbers are fudged big time and couldnt be duplicated on the street
