Amount of boost capable.... Hmmm...

I was just thinking about how magnificient it would be if my very own Focus ZX3 was turbo charged... and this line of thinking lead me to pondering about how much boost the stock 2001 ZETEC motor would be able to withstand? I'm guessing 6-9 lbs/sq. in... but i'm just guessing... what do you folks think?

Well for one it depends on the tune, fuel your using etc.

There is no such thing as the zetec is good up to X amount of boost.

1turbofocus runs lots of boost with a stock engine.

there was a magazine with a turbo focus and he was running like anywhere from 10-12 lbs on stock internals because of the low compression. Im just used to hondas with higher compression to where you can only run 6-7 psi safely on stock internals.

With the proper tune and the proper fuel 12 to 15 PSI is NOT a problem i have run as much as 22Psi but would not tell a customer to do it

I'm looking at buy a focus at the moment in AUS and then turbo charging it.

Now I read this article. These guys run 15PSI of boost pulling 278.7 HP at the wheels (208kW)

Appreciate the link Laser.....that is very interesting. Nothing against Tom, but it would be nice to see some competition in the turbocharger market for the Foci.

I'm thinking they had to be using race fuel for those numbers though.

The AEBS turbo is a custom setup and is most likely a one off item, not gonna be produced.

It would be nice if the aerocharger was still around, those kits brand new were like $ 2800 and made a decent 200 whp and wtq. A little extra tuning and it would be a great kit for a daily driven car.

Quote:
To start off, the gurus at AEBS went all out with fabrication. Exhaust gases travel through a highly crafted 321 stainless-steel exhaust manifold and downpipe, while the air charge is pushed through 6061 aluminum intercooler piping. According to AEBS, the one-off turbo kit should graduate to production model status soon.

Turbo magazine is playing the turbo guinea pigs for AEBS and we wanted to see just how well the prototype kit would work on a stock Zetec engine. Is it worth the money?
This is what I was looking @ focaltech....Who knows, could be or possibly it's an old magazine and the prototype failed to get into production. Do you know something i don't?
