Nitrous on an Automagic?

Well we all know the stock automatic can't handle much power at all. But when all my friends have fast cars (BMWs, WRX, RX-8 to name a few). I need some serious power to be able to hang with them. And nitrous seems like a very cost-effective way of doing this.

If I use nitrous will this kill my tranny like a S/C or turbo would? I dont think it would be as bad, as it would only be puttin stress on the tranny some of the time. But the Focus is my daily driver and i can't afford to have my trannny die, so do you think i can run nitrous or not? Or is there anything cheap i could do to beef up the tranny?

According to the FAQ page on Nitrousexpress.com

"Q. Can I use a nitrous kit on an automatic?
A. Yes, the preferred application, for nitrous, is an automatic transmission equipped vehicle."

Has anyone here run nitrous on their auto?

Well, nitrous itself isn't what kills a tranny, but how much / how often it's used. I believe I've heard that a 25 or 50 shot on an auto is pretty safe, but start going higher and you'll have problems.

I understand where you're coming from...I have a friend with an SRT-4 and another with an STi, so I know what you mean...but we'll be running a lot slower than we are now with shot trannies...

You can safely run 200 hp to the autotragics without breaking them. But long term durability doing so would be an issue.

if you do a 50 shot you will be pushing the tranny to its limit if you have no mods..
and even then you will have "only" 150 whp (is the 50 shot means whp shot)...

and on 150 whp the auto tranny will not hold for long...

they say the preferred app is auto...but what they dont say is how strong the tranny should be..

So what if i got a new torque converter and tranny cooler from Lentech. Would that solve any problems? I mean if I run a 50 shot say like maybe twice a week on average (thats only like a couple seconds), how bad can that be?

Nitrous and these autos are kind of like using cheap condoms, yeah, they'll work, but if something goes wrong you are in a world of hurt.

Back when I ran nitrous I ran a 50 shot kit. My tranny held up fine. BUT........... How long it last denpends on how frequently you use the N2O. If you get a torque converter and a tranny oil cooler that will help your tranny perform better and last longer. Using it to frequently with the stock tranny will only break it eventually. Like I said if you get a torque converter and a tranny oil cooler and maybe even a valve cover it will perform better and last longer without no mayor problems.

i'm pretty sure the 50 shot means 50hp at the crank

i've been using a 50 shot on my car for over a year, and i haven't had any problems with my tranny
