Turbo Kit with an auto tranny.....Help!

I just score a 2001 SE for $6,000 with 20,000 miles. The car is in perfect condition an maintained well. Immediately I thought about the cold air intake and exhaust upgrade. However, my goals are to obtained a larger increase in horsepower and although my goal is not to race I would just like to pass any average vehicle on the road at will. Im stationed in Hawaii and have thought about just waiting to go back to main land and score a factory turbo vehicle and start there.

Yet I always come back to the possibility of turning the SE into a turbo. Please advice me with thoughts on this issue taking in consideration this car is an automatic. If possible please include specific brand names and parts that would help me get the results. I keep my eyes on ebay......Thanks.

Jaime.

i think your screwed for the most part but i could be wrong. you could get a jrsc and the big boost kit that everyone is yaying about. that would make your car pretty decently fast for not too much money.

your automatic cant hold that much power before you start damaging it. basically your kinda stuck with the jrsc option.

i think that is cool too tho. good luck.

if im wrong someone correct me.

If you want an automatic with FI more than likely you will need to upgrade your tranny. lentechautomatics.com has upgrade parts of full blown automatic transmissions that can hold up to 500 hp at the wheels. Turbo Tom is using one of Lentech's automatic transmissions in his turboed drag Focus. He swears by them.

Thanks Osiris
I'll research more on that option.

Maybe you guys can advice on another route voiding a turbo option. What could be another route for maximun gain without altering the transmission? Exhaust, cold air, headers, etc......I see from many of the users mods that not everyone is jumping head first into the supercharger/turbo options. Just how much power are you guys gaining by going via that route, for example, Osiris's route. (see above)
Is it the money?

Just how short or close can you get to from the turbo's horse power gain without going with the turbo? I've been trying to educate myself and honestly many of this kits give you 50 horses. 158 total, and rarely is the average enthusiast pushing 200 or more horse. That's not impresive. I have no problem accepting the focus limitations. That is 1/2 the problem, I dont know my cars limitations. Any thoughts?
Greatly appreciated.

Your ATX can take 130 tq at the wheels. The basic JRSC gives 129 tq on a manual. So the ATX set up will be lower...but you'll eventually tear it up anyway.
Beef the ATX up first, then do whatever you want. Otherwise do the typical NA bolt ons and a stage 1 set of cams. The ATX is a huge cost penalty. I have yet to read of a stock atx holding up to any FI. Believe me, I wish it could.

Thanks.

I'll just make it look nice, add the basics (cold air, exhaust), some sounds and give it to the wife.
