Thumbs up Smoked my engine

Well just nursed her to my buds apartment, been running nitrous for bout a well not even a week now. Using a nitrous express wet kit running a 50 shot with short ram intake, steeda high flow fuel rail, screemin demon coil pack n lines with the afc22c's copper plugs and borla exhaust. She was running fine when i got on her and when i got off the throttle to make a turn it started to spudder like running on 3 cylinders. Got to auto zone ran the OBD thingy and said that cylinder 4 was misfiring. Bought 4 new stock plugs got to the apartment took out cylinder 4 plug and she was melted not the electrode but the prong that goes over it. I put in the new plugs and shes still sputtering so im pretty sure i melted the rings or melted a hole in the piston. Kinda sucks cuz i was being very causous with this stuff but i new the risk so anyway thought id letcha all know what happend and if anyone has any good suggestions for new rods and pistons, prolly going lower compresion and related stuff like built short block and bearings let me know please. OH yea i was running sonoco ultra 94 octane.

thank you all for your time.

Brandon.

brandon i dont know exactly whats up with ur car but hopefully you make a decent buck.

if you do think of it this way, get a re-enforced block with stronger pistons and rods and spray a bigger shot safer hahahaa

good luck man i hope you resolve it quickly and cheaply.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what went wrong, i didnt rage on it just did a roll on from 45mph above 3000rpm and never hit the limiter shifted at 5800 rpm. The kit was installed at a performance shop profesionally. I was thinking since it was the number 4 cylinder doesnt it usually make slightly more power out of #4 than all the other cylinders, isnt that the cylinder that you always check first for anything like temps and stuff. Maybe for some weird reason the nitrous bounced around the intake manifold and for some reason ended up at least a majority of the nitrous got sucked into the number 4 cylinder and she combusted before the spark and some how overheated the cylinder to melt the piston. Sounds legit cuz all of the other cylinders are fine and the plugs look perfect.

Any thoughts ? Maybe Viney or someone.
thanks

Brandon

The only thing that can do that is excessive Cyl temps caused by either a lack of fuel or to much timing

We know that on most Focus engines 50 can be done with out much issues so this tells me anyway that the timing is safe for 50 ( I dont think it is but many are doing it ) if everything else is stock so my guess is you had a fuel issue

Do you have a chip in the car before you added the nitrous

Tom

Nope no chip just a stock computer. Could it be also that maybe a fuel injector failed. I do have a steeda high volume fuelrail also, i thought that that might help with the fuel delivery a little but i guess not.

Im stumped again it only happend to cylinder #4 all the other cylinders and plugs seem to look immaculate. Im going to run a compression test and eventually a leak down test today and see what happends.

thanks

Brandon.

^^^ He stated above that he is using a wet kit. Did you check the injector to see if it is still delivering fuel to #4 cylinder? If the engine is in need of rebuilding, you could always dump the nitrous and go with a V-8 conversion LOL

Hey man, sorry to hear something is up. I agree with Tom,, with no chip in the car it sounds like a fuel issue... A compression test will tell you if you have any issues with the pistons or rings... A leak down test is even better, but realistically a simple compression test should show you if you have any problems... I have been running the same basic set-up as you for over a year with no problems so something is up...if it burned the electode of the plug it was definately lean. How did the other 3 plugs look??? If they were all fine I would suspect fuel, check the new fuel rail and the injectors and make sure there are no leaks etc etc.

Also, just a note, check the spark plug wires and any other connections...it would be sweet if it was something simple..let us know

Well fella's just did a compression check and here are the numbers as follows.

Cylinder # 1 192 psi

Cylinder # 2 192 psi

Cylinder # 3 189 psi

Cylinder # 4 0 psi

so my conclusion is that the # 4 piston has a large hole in it and Brandons going to be buying new internals. Bad deal but hopefully if im lucky i can keep everything with labor under 1500 bucks but i quess we'll have to see. Does anyone know of any package deals that come with new bearings and everything as one package not so much a short block but internals wise.

Thanks all for your help and time.

Brandon.
