JRSC Water injection

I'm installing a JRSC this weekend on my SVT and have a water injection kit for it. I'm also putting on the 42# injectors and 3" pulley then feathering the car to the tune shop. My question is do I really need water injetion for 9lbs of boost in Michigan it gets pretty hot in the summer but I'm not constantly dogging the car either?? Anybody got any advice or knowledge about this???

Water injection is an effective way to supress detonation but it has some drawbacks. If you tune the engine to make max power with the water, you will have the fuel leaned out and the timing up. If you run OUT of water, the motor is now dangerously tuned and unless there is some sort of safeguard employed, you will hurt something quickly. My last turbo motor blew a one inch hole between cylinders when the head gasket failed at 18psi because the water tank ran out. No time to lift either. BANG!.....

On the other hand, if you tune the motor to run safely without the water injection you will not get much benefit when you add it. IMO, the best plan would be to tune for max safe power without the WI and see how it runs. If you have good 93/94 octane fuel available there might not be much power to be had by adding the water. Only if you are detonating will the WI help at all.

Your tuner should be able to give you the pros and cons and help you with your decision. Have fun!

Thanks for the help, I think I'm going to run it and have it tuned without WI and see how it runs, maybe eventually I'll insta; it
