does this make it legal?

i've been thinking and doesn't a turbo kit just eliminate the cat pipe with a down pipe which connects to the flex pipe??? if this is true can't you order the r/t high flow cat for the svt which is a cat/flex combo and put that after your down pipe and still remain emmissions legal???

in cali you cannot alter any emissions on the car before the muffler. Unless the car has 50000 miles on it. In my state turbo kits must carry a carb number to be legal.

In Cali, you can't change ANYTHING on your engine that exists from the intake to the catalytic converter without a CARB number. Otherwise you would fail visual inspection even if you were to pass the sniffer.

Basically if you want to stay legal, Vortech or Powerworks when it becomes available. They are your only options. I heard pro-charger is going for a CARB cert as well, so that would be another. So cali basically sucks.

If your not in a CARB state, then I believe all you need is a CAT in place. I dont know if they say that the catalytic needs to be in the stock location and the OEM piece. But from what I understand, non CARB states are pretty lax. Honestly I can't see Massachusetts being one of those places.

Most non-CARB states that do an emissions check do a quick visual check for the prescense or abscense of a cat...here in Ohio they hire people off the street that don't know the difference between a cat and a cylinder head. A friend of mine had a '89 Civic hatch with a completely rusted-through flexpipe and he passed the visual and sniffer tests. It all depends on how seriously your state takes the emissions testing; again, in Ohio its more or less a scam so the private company that runs the stations can make a profit, since there's loopholes in the law that created the "e-check" program big enough to drive a truck through.

I know Tom's turbo kit leaves the stock cat in place.

Yeah, on a SVT...not on a non-SVT. The cat gets replaced with the downpipe...
