Maximum PSI to push on race gas

Im about to take the Focus to a local Dyno meet. Im just trying to get a little bragging rights around the city. Ive heard the Focus can do 20psi , just ridiculous

Well anyways. I want to push some more boost on the dyno. I am currently at 10-11psi right now on 91. I dont want ideas, I would like some advice from those that have been into turbo tech for a while

Wait, your using 10-11psi on daily driving? or is that just for racing? How is your engine built?

My question would be , what tuning do you have , how much timing are you running

If you are going to do this run out as much 91 as you can then do at least 5 gal of 110 and try that IF everything else is safely tuned

Even with good fuel he has to be pushing the limit of the stock pistons at 12 lbs?..or is the focus piston better than I think?

What size turbo? What size injectors? Do you have fuel management? Without proper tuning/lack of gas... Go see the post on "It felt like I only had half my power." You'll put a hole through a piston for sure. With the proper management and delivery of your fuel your stock rods and pistons are good up to 20psi maybe a little more from a T3/T4 for one or two dyno pulls, but that is the limit and I do not recomend it. A lot of people underestimate the stock rods and pistons. I would agree that they are not reliable for boost like that every day, but that if you did a tensile(compression in this situation) failure analysis that the rods and pistons would be a lot stronger than expected. It is the fatigue analysis that would justify everyones swap for aftermarket forged rods and pistons. I think this was a little more than an answer to your post, but I want everyone to realize the engineering behind the rod and piston material as well as the manufacturing makeup and their importance.

Thanks,
SS81

Hey man, I'm out here in AZ. I run 10PSI daily and been now for over a year. I run STOCK block and have Toms tuning. I have dynoed at 15psi. Everytime I go to the track I put a few gallons of 110 and turn it up to 15 psi. I wouldn't reccomend going past 15 though. I do have the J and S safeguard though.

Oh yeah AZ has 91 octane.
Good Luck.

I've detonated at 13psi unintercooled...didn't hurt anything besides remove a bit of carbon from the pistons luckily. Non focus though....keep an eye on your plugs when turning the boost up, and do it in small increments.
