Nitrous...bad rap???

Just a simple question.. Not trying to ruffle any feathers here, just lookin' for some answers.

Why is it that some people consider nitrous "cheating".. Alot of folks seem to dislike nitrous like it isn't true horsepower, or its too easy, or ...well I don't know... I have owned turbocharged, blown, and nitrous vehicles and they all have pluses and minuses... So what is with the nitrous hate... Trust me.. you are not going to make me feel bad because I run it, I'm just curious why folks seeem to not like it.

well I cant talk because I dont own a nitrous kit, but for the ppl who love N/A cars I can see where they are coming from its just not natural to inject a substance into your engine to make it perform better. Its kind of like using coke before running a track race so you can be better than everyone. But I'm not going to knock on nitrous but I would never buy it...

I think its just because its only there with the button, where as the Sc is there all the time, fun to play with in everyday driving, etc. I dont dislike nitrous, but running 15.5 NA and runnin 14.1 with nitrous, it just doesnt seem right to call your car a "low 14 second car" because you hit a switch. Just my input, dont hate :)

Right, because it's not power where people live. No different than the people pushing race gas hp and times. Sorry, but no one drives around with race gas in their cars... $5+ a gallon race gas??? They only have the times and power while at a track. I don't know anyone who drives around everyday with their bottle always open and always filled...

So many people feel like they're like steriods for the engine. Easy hp.

Don't take this the wrong way, but nitrous does the EXACT same thing as a SC or a turbo it just does it chemically.. I find that most folks who dislike nitrous have never used it or had any experience with it.. I think it is just a general bad taste for most people.. The analogy to coke kinda made sense to me. I disagree with it, but I like the ananlogy, it helps me understand where folks are coming from... This also seems to be a thing of youth.. Anyone think it is just a bad tatse from our favorite movie THE F&F..

.....BTW my bottle is full and in my car right now, and I have a remote bottle opener on it.. I can be armed and ready to smoke you BEFORE the light changes!!

the biggest fear people have when it comes to nitrous is blowing their motor, and/or themselves up. that can be remedied by TUNING. just like SC/turbo, it won't work right without proper TUNING! they get a little too aggressive on the spark timing usually. have you ever been in a pinging car? now think of how it'll feel with each cylinder pumping out twice as much power and starts pinging.

blowing up your motor is quite possible, if you don't have proper TUNING. but all those nitrous explosions you hear about...well, most of them are just stories. nitrous oxide is a NON-FLAMMABLE vapor. only at high temperatures, such as the temperatures caused by the compression in a cylinder, will the nitrogen split from the oxygen so that the oxygen can be burned. a cold bottle of nitrous has no chance of exploding.

also...please remember, nitrous is N2O, not NO2. NO2 is a harmful emmission that is caused by incomplete combustion and goes out your tailpipe.

I was wondering the same thing? How long does the Remote bottle opener take? I mean cuz I would much rather invest a grand or 1500 on a REALLY nice Nitrous setup instead of the JRSC cuz it would be MUCH easier to install. Lemme know. Thanks

LOL.. They work fine, they open in about 2 seconds.. The only prob with them is that they cost 200 bucks plus

The other expensive toy you need is a bottle heater if you live in cool climates at all...yep another 200 bucks or so.. , but well worth it with the results.

i don't see what's wrong with using an upgrade to make your car run better (shrugs shoulders). i'm not against at all, hell, i think it's a great idea.
