Running 25 psi

how possible would this be on a 2001 zx3? What would you need to upgrade first for the turbo @ 25 psi

possible yes. best answers will be in the turbo section of this forum. 25 PSI is a large turbo, will likely have large turbo lag. 25 PSI will require major motor work for the likely power numbers. it is hard to remove flow rates from PSI with out knowing the set up.

you need a turbo capable of handling that amount of power. most importantly is the motor. bottom end. need rods pistons and bearings. you might want to wait till a new oil pump with billet gears comes out as well. also need to get return fuel system to run that much psi. its very expensive to run that much power just to let you know. im just tipping the iceberg here for you. not going into full incredible details

What turbo are you running? Psi is meaningless unless you know what CFM the turbo is able to move.

Why would PSI be a goal?

Wouldnt a certain HP/TQ number be the goal? Or a certain ET or lap time?

depending on supporting mods 25psi could get you between 400 and maybe as much as 600hp. you would spend almost 10 grand easily to get the car to make and take that kind of power. twin disk clutch 1400, fuel return system about a grand give or take some, turbo kit components at least 3 grand for used components, built bottom end with all the fasteners, bearings, and gaskets at least 1200. then you have misc bits like exhaust, tuning, suspension, motor mounts, limited slip diff, better tires, etc that are going to cost at least another 2 grand. then you have to decide what intake manifold to run. the stock one supposedly wont take that much boost even though i plan on putting that to the test. you will want a bigger throttle body. then you need to decide whether or not to run the stock head. you can if you want but you can make alot more power if you run a good P&P head with 5 angle and larger valves, crower springs and retainers, and maybe boost cams. that would set you back 1500 or more at least.

you would be much better off for the time being to simply lay hands on a cheaper used turbo kit and boost the stock engine for the time being. that will get you in the neighborhood of 250whp and all you really need to spring on to do that is the turbo kit and tuning and after that you can decide whether or not you want to go for more power.
