I had the same problem at one point, ended up being in the tune. use to happen to me all the time at the gas pump, if i would wait 5-10 min it would start right up.
That was my first thought years ago when it first popped up. I talked to tom about it (that was when he was tuning it) He couldnt find anything. So then i talked to my current tuner he couldnt find anything. Like i said the car runs great otherwise and if i give it some time it cranks right up.

what part of the tune was it in for you Roush?

Quote:
could the injectors somehow keep spraying for a second after you turn off the car? if it smells rich when you fire it back up, sounds like there is some extra fuel that dumped somewhere. that would explain the 5mins for the fuel to evaporate/settle so the car would start. maybe an o-ring issue?
I thought this too Thats why i tried beating the fuel to the injector by starting quickly as well as sitting there for a min or so with my foot on the gas hoping it would allow for faster evaporation (without cranking it). But nothing seems to work. Some times it cranks right up But 99% of the time it just spins and doesnt start.

Sure ill trade you your crazy car plus say 20k and ill give you my car.. haha. Not sure what this new head did but it feels soo much stronger than it ever did. I rewrapped the turbo mani and down pipe leaving the old wrap on there and i spools a couple of hundred rpm sooner. Its nice to barely hit the throttle and it spools.. It spooled fast before now its just nuts.. pretty much no turbo lag at all now.. LOOVVEEE ITTT!!!!

Just wish It would stop doing this starting thing. Like roush said it really only bothers me when im getting gas most of the other times im away from the car long enough that its not an issue. Thats why ive been able to deal with it for so long. Im just back on my rant to have it perfect.

man. I'm at a loss on this one. haven't the slightest idea what it is. have you tried a quick google search to see if other types of cars have had similar problems? like a different platform, but same issue?

and do you have any videos of your focus? like rowing through the gears or something?

did a quick google search and found some things you could check to rule out

looks like a fuel pump relay, "faulty temperature sender" (not sure what that is), or possible corrosion on the battery cable?

My buddy had this same kind of issue. Check the pigtail going to your crank sensor.

have you tried shutting the car off with out turning the key all the way to lock. just turn it back to acc leaving every thing powered including ecu and the fuel pump should not reprime the next crank. its worth a try just to see how it reacts

If any of those were the problem it wouldnt happen only when i shut off the car. I thought temp sensor but it doesnt matter if the car is warmed up or not. the fuel pump relay would be most likely always a problem and would see it when driving the car too or when ever. My problems is only when i shut the car of and try to start it for a specific time.

Checked that, years ago. and looks good. even changed the sensor twice.

If that was the problem then why does it start if i shut it off and then immediately start it back up. But ill try it.
