The tip of your dipstick is probably just chillin' in the bottom of your oil pan. If it's like the svt you just use rtv for the gasket. That's what the factory uses.

Sounds like you may have an issue with your oil line / gauge , when you shut the engine off the oil psi should drop to 0 with in 2-4 sec , when you start the engine you should see full oil psi in 2-3 sec and colder at about 85 +/- psi is about right and 50 +/- is about right for hot 180+ deg and 8-10 min driving
Rule of thumb on a DOHC engine is about 10-12 psi for every 1000 rpm is all thats needed so at 3000 and you have 30 - 60 your good , 6000-7000 and you have 60-70 your good , this will change some with oil temps , type and weight of oils , age / miles on engine

Because I have a dry sump, I have studied oil pressure extensively on the zetec. At idle spec is 28psi (min 18 max 40 constant), and about 7.5 additional per 1000 rpm.
I got numbers directly from ford, and some from ford UK too. I also have docs that should performance of the stock pump as well as some with aftermarket pumps.
