General FI Questions

Hi, Newbie here.

Alittle background, I came from the SHO arena and currently enjoying a 1987 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible.

I am doing some research on the Focus market and wanting to find out more info on the Duratec motor and the Focus. I did some quick searches and didn't find anything.

1. I am wanting to find out what PSI the stock Duratec motor can take before a performance rebuilt is necessary. What is usually the first failure point for the Duratec when being forced feed?

2. What HP levels will the drivetrain take before upgrades are required for them.

3. From my research it appears there used to be alot of FI options that have gone by the wayside. Is this due to current market options being better than those or is it due to sales not being strong enough in the Focus market?

If someone can answer these or point me to the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

HP is about 250HP , depending on what turbo and turbo kit will depend on the PSI to get you there

There hasnt been a lot out there for the duratec , the is a Hydrolic SC being tested , a few turbo kits out there , never was much for the Duratec , the Zetec there was a lot more

Thank you for answering Tom.

A hydraulic supercharger? Who is working on that? Very intrigued. I know Garrett tried a hydraulic turbo charger but never made it to market. Wonder how many of those would sell once in the Focus market?

Is it more the engine or model generation that people prefer the Zetec for?

I think Tom meant there's more aftermarket stuff for the zetec.

Ok, but why? Is the Duratec not as strong as a motor as the Zetec? Is the market demand pushing Zetec over Duratec? Is there just not enough estimated market to even get into the Duratec?

I think it's because the zetec has been around longer. The aftermarket for the duratec is expanding and will probably continue to do so.

Bespurcell - Nice SVT. That makes sense. I am interested for sure in the Hydraulic Supercharger and what is the failure points of the motor.

First failure would be the connecting rods , then pistons , valve springs , fix those and she will do 350 easy
