Comp Turbo Dyno

Finally got to the dyno tonight after installing the Comp Turbo. I had some issues with the wastegate holding the boost again so I need to go with a higher spring rate (12psi currently). Tom gave me adjustability but it only allowed to me richen it up but I needed to lean it out. Anyway, we only got a good 15psi clean run and a not so good 20psi and 25-27psi run. Here are the dyno graphs:

15psi holding strong

20psi peak

22psi peak

27psi peak

Alot of boost float. You definitely need a higher spring. Also, what size turbo?

There is only 1whp and 3wtq total difference between 20 and 25psi. Probably because of the wastegate spring plus that less than 10:1 AFR. AFR is running a good bit rich. That definitely needs to be leaned out.

Sorry that should be 22psi peak and not 25psi. But yes, it was way too rich.

Yes, this is their triple ball bearing turbo. Bare in mind some power was left on the table considering the rich AFR but yes this turbo is a bit more sluggish than my old Garrett GT2871R. However, this is also a bit bigger than your turbo so the spool is expected to be slower. I may try a different blade though to see if it helps out with the spool.

bigger doesnt matter much to me if it doesnt make more power. and my a/f was 10-1. i hated my turbo thought it spooled to slow for the power it made. if i were doing the build again i would have went with a bullseye s258 b/c no one else with a focus has one and i am curious what one would do.

I now realize what may have been contributing to my issues. I had the overboost shut-down set at 27.5psi and forgot to change it. They say that it has to be at least 2psi higher than the boost you want so anything over 25.5psi would have activated the boost shutdown. Anyway, I'll remember for next time.

Yes, I datalogged all of the runs. I'll send you one to look at but I'm thinking I should get the WG spring changed before I change anything in the tune.
