Question about Probe Pistons.

Does probe put out a piston for the Zetec thats stock bore size?

Not sure if they do, but if you are rebuilding your block, you want to get it bored out anyways, to make sure that it's perfectly round. Then get the .007" oversize Probes

.007 isnt really an over bore. a good hone can put you .007 over. and if you are doing a build you need to have that done any way.

Alright. Well I'm just doing some research on stuff.. I'm looking at CFM's short block that they sell and it says they don't bore the new block. I once herd that there wasn't a company that made stock size pistons lol So I didn't know how CFM was putting after market pistons in a stock bore.

Umm...so I wonder if they are using stock rings or after market?

I doubt anyone knows this off hand so I'll prolly end up calling them and asking what all they do.

I'll put it this way: if your motor's compression is really good right now, you could most likely get away with using standard bore pistons/rings...but it's not optimal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

My engines compression is crap lol So I'm looking to send my engine off to be rebuilt with better internals OR I was looking at CFM's built short block. They are using stock bore with prob's and I was under the impression you could only buy over bored pistons but as we see you can lol

So I'm looking at my options... CFM Vs sending my short block out to have it rebuilt and it being rebuilt it would have the slight bore.

It's hard to beat the price of the CFM block. $2000 for a motor that can handle 500whp. If you send yours off to be built it will most likely cost more unless you are friends with who is building it.

Thats what I'm thinking.. I've gotten a quote to send my block off and it cost a little more. If I bought CFM's I would have two blocks...my old one and the new one (built) If I send mine off I would either A: have it built or B: use my SVT as a core and have just one engine lol

Stock bores are done ULTRA fast and are rarely found to be right , useable for a daily driver yes
When you go to performance you needa good bore with the correct honeing done for the rings used , NA uses a diff ring then FI a good builder should be doing

Stock deck height is NEVER right and the deck on the block needs to be done to make sure all the Cyl have the same compression when the short block is done

All this cost more to do BUT you get a better quality engine
