Tach Driver

I was talking to my buddy today about my N2O install and a tach driver came up in our conversation. I'm not sure if I really need one. Is it that I don't need one, but it's safer to use one for the tach impulse that wires into the window switch? I'm using an NOS window switch 15982NOS.

There's nothing in here talking about a tach driver. They say to connect the ignition coil signal wire on one of the COPs. There's even a pic of it in the directions. Is the ignition system different on the Focus to where a tach driver is required for a proper tach output signal to the window switch?

I can't answer your question, but I have a Ford Racing tach driver that I'm no longer using. If you wanted to hook it up to test it out, you're more than welcome to.

While searching for the part number on the webs, I found this. I wonder how different the MSD and the NOS window switches are? Also, this was on a Zetec ZX2. I'm not sure how different it would be for the duratec. Time to lookup pin 48?

yeah I saw that. I'm just wondering how different the ignition may be on the 08+ due to the drive by wire system. I'll have to look at the wiring schematic in my shop manual.

Yeah, that's true.

Let me know if you do need it. I'm always looking for car work so I'll help you install it. You wouldn't have to pay me for it, just buy me a fifth of jack or a case of beer and we'll call it good.

ok, I think I heading in the right direction. I talked to NOS and they said I don't need anything else (tach driver) to install my window switch. I have a wiring diagram manual specifically for my 09. The throttle positioning is easy. There are two wires going to the throttle body for the TPS. TP1

and TP2. TP1 = BROWN and TP2 =GREEN/VIOLET. One will have a constant voltage and one will have a rising or falling voltage. Pretty straight forward. For the RPM signal though, there are two wires on the COP. One is GREEN/VIOLET and one is VIOLET. The manual says the VIOLET wire is "FUSE OR CIRCUIT BREAKER", which I believe is the constant 12V power to the coil. The GREEN/VIOLET wire is "CTRL MOD. - POWERTRAIN#IGNITION COIL ON PLUG ASSEMBLY". This wire goes directly into the PCM. I'm thinking this is the signal wire I need. The NOS directions state I need to splice the window switch into the tach output or the ignition coil signal wire. Does this seem right?
