vortech boost question

ok here is a dumb question i just hooked up my boost vac gauge (connected to the vac line to bov) and i have a 2.62 sc pulley which is for 10 psi not when just took it for a ride around 45-5k rpm i was only seeing 5 psi???? now i have never used a vortech before and its not 100% tuned yet so i didnt push it to hard is this normal? does a vortech make max boost at 7k or did i connect my gauge to the wrong vac line?

Not sure about the Focus Vortech's, but I know on my mustang, the boost is max at the higher RPMs.

It is a Centrifugal blower, which means that it builds boost slowly as the rpm increases. Where as a roots or twin screw blower, builds boost almost instantly. On a roots you can go from 0 psi to 10psi right off idle, where as a centrifugal starts at 0psi, and works its way up as the RPMs go up, making a maximum of 8-10psi (depending on pulley). So once you get it tuned, THEN see what boost it makes at 6500-7,000 RPM. Hope this helps :)

I would hook your vac line directly to you IM in someway and I think you will get a better boost/vacuum reading.

I don't know about the Vortech... But on a Jackson Racing which is a roots, you will hit 5 psi instantly and with the BBK you will climb up in rpms and hit around 10 psi at redline.

Some procharger guys need to chime in.

It's fine....those centrifugal blowers will start building boost somewhere around 3000rpm... so to have 5PSI at 4500 it's about right...you should have full boost close to the redline
