Worth the trip to Tom's for a tune

I am curious. I have a very good engine tuner here in memphis, dynospeedracing and the owner/tuner's name is joe beagle. he has done first class work on my car, but i am wondering. He mostly works on mustangs and the like. Would it be worth the 500 mile drive out to see Tom and let him install the new turbo kit coming from f2 that he has been working with them on. I respect the guy tremendously. In fact I was originally intent of driving there to have my original NA work done, but due to momma's health I couldn't make it.

the turbo on the other hand, well my question is... is it really worth it to have a strictly focus man tune the car. I know and trust tom, but the question is it really worth it.

Tom feel free to chime in...

I will be doing this middle summer 2011

Tom is one of the best in the Focus world. V8 are very different than a 4 cylinder. To me if you got the time and money to have Tom do it, then I would.

You wouldnt need to come here for the tune , I can do your tuning remote then when finsihed you could go to the dyno to get your # if you choose

If you like send me a datalog of your can now 3rd gear WOT 2-6500 and lets see what it looks like and doing this will give you an idea what remote tuning is like

Yes I feel taking it to some one that specializes in X car is a better choise then some one that rarely works on X car

There are many on FF with Duratec Turbos that I have or am remote tuning now

Tom

It's worth doing the remote tuning. I'm a happy customer. :-)

there are plenty of tuners out in the world... but the best tuner is the guy that specializes on your car. You're guy may do a good job on your focus, but a focus tuner will do an awsome job.

Tom has been remote tuning my F2 turbo setup and has done an awsome job. It is a bit time consuming but worth it.

Thanks Tom !

I gotta tell you guy's that are still on the fence about remote tuning. I have had Tom tune my engine when it was N A , then again with the Pro Charger then back to N A and now were tuning the Turbo install. All i can say is he has gone out of his way to tune my ride. Even sent me a tune last Sunday ! Thats what you call customer service. And all for the same price. And to top it off , the car runs fantastic. If your going to add HP to your Focus, in my opinion , there is only one choice TURBO TOM and focus power. Thanks Tom.

i drove from Jonesboro, AR (im sure you know where that is being from Memphis) to Tom's for my tune. i would deff recommend taking the drive to tom's. he is a great tuner and knows the focus like no other. he is a great guy and you will be happy with the results. plus it is a beautiful drive.

A remote tune is all you would need and then you can always have it dynoed locally.

is it worth the 500 mile drive to have tom DYNO tune your car? no. the remote tune will be just as good if not better because winding a car out on a dyno isnt in the REAL world as it were. tuning a car on the STREET is going to make for a better tune on the street. tuning a car in a garage with the front tires sitting on a big wheel with a fan blowing up its rear is going to make for the best tune on a dyno. does that logic make any sense?

is it worth the 500 mile drive to have him INSTALL a turbo kit? yes and no. if you arent completely sure that you can handle the install yourself or find someone who can help or do it for you locally then yes it is because tom does GREAT work and gets it put together right the first time at least 99% of the time. i know this from personal experience, he put together my new transmission for me.
if you can do the install locally and correct then thats the route to take because honestly the man's time is not cheap and rightfully so. granted im sure there are places around that would charge an arm and leg more than tom for the physical labor he does but it is definitely a few hundred bucks cheaper to just do it yourself for sure. and a turbo install really isnt as hard as its chalked up to be.
