SVT performance parts.... what comes first?

hey, i have a 03 svt, and i do not know where to start....
the dude before me put in a magnaflow exhaust, and idk what intake.

but here is what i am looking at.
super? or turbo? but not sure what all it replaces.

a friend told me for a cheap upgrade, cams but unfortunately i am not that intelligent about my car, soooo... embarassingly asking, just one?

also,new exhaust?

and maybe a new CAI?

lastly (for now) clutch, i was thinking stage 2 CM.the shop wants 950 plus 500 for install!!! i found it somewhere for 800...

anyway... yes/no and priorities?

thanks for the help!!

ok here we go..

it all depends on the love you have for the car lol, i mean the svt doesnt respond that good to mods, so the best bang for thebuck is forced induction, either turbo, sc or nitrous. To get it done right it costs some money little more over 3500, you gotta read to choose within one or other.

Svt is got the best cams available already.. well kinda, unless you want to pay 1000 bucks for a more agressive set and get little hp.

exhaust.. well if it has a magnaflow system, its likely to have a 2.5in, which is the 2nd best exhaust you can get, instead of that check if you have the stock cat still, if you do you can replace it with an orp or a hfc and get about 7whp and some tq.

edit.. just checked your links.

about the supercharger, if you can find the powerworks go for it, its nearly impossible to find one new, even used *for svt.

gude turbo.. i dont know anyone that has it, ive heard lots of bad things about it, its not complete, bad turbo choice etc etc, you might wanna look for focuspower turbo kit (1turbofocus) or wait for fswerks kit which is coming out soon. you will spend more than 3.5k like i said

hks exhaust is not the best for performance, specially if you want to go FI, they have small diameter, but they sound really good, if you already have a magnaflow id suggest to keep it.

dont spend 300 bucks in a brand new cai, they might get you some hp, not more than 10hp, more like 5hp, you can get them used here in the bst forum for about 100 bucks

for the clutch stuff check CFM, they got many options and the best prices

other thing, you need lots of reading, thats the best thing you can do and its free, it will save you money and time in the future

Edit* Well svt beat me to it. :( darn you. Ahah just a few minutes late

Well first off, if u can find a powerworks supercharger for the svt ur gonna b putting out some cash, and that's if u can find one. They didn't make to many and stopped production fairly quick.

That turbo kit is specificaly made for the zx3 and I haven't seen anyone with one. U can make it fit the svt with minor fab work but you would probly b better off with a full used kit someone on here is selling. Exspecially if you haven't played with a turbo before.

Cams on the svt are usless. We have very aggresive cams from the factory.

Cai is also usless if u do plan on doing a turbo kit, save the money

Exhaust, go as big as possible if u are serious about putting fi on.

Just look at some of the build threads to see if you really want to go that route and soak up as much as possible in the stickys, good luck man

If you're sticking to just bolt-ons, your stock airbox is the best cold air you can get. Keep the SVT header and add a off road pipe and a larger flexpipe to complement the exhaust. Get a CFM throttle body; you'll love the response. And furthermore, get a tune. That's what wakes a Zetec up.

ok, cool, thanks for the help!

i read a post about the stock airbox, i am not sure if it is still in, tho. i was also planning on a off road pipe, heard it would do a lot for my car. ok, so bottom line is:

save up for a gently used turbo, unless i get lucky with a powerworks kit somewhere?

and for clutch, i will most likely get the FX200. The Throttle body, maybe. I am probably gonna be saving up till next summer, because i want to do something, but, smart enough to know i need the money.

the reason i wanted the hks, cuz it looks huge, off and on the car. As Svtdriver said, go big for FI.

see powerworks there it is, and it has bill me later, oooooooo. j/k. still too much. not exactly bolt on, if it takes 16 hrs.

ok, well, i will just save for now, cuz i do not plan on getting rid of this car. ever. no warranty anymore tho. so if anything breaks, upgrade.

if you say so....

i don't trust mine. lol. idk, cuz i was told that if you get a turbo you need one that can withstand more power. also, mine takes some abuse. not lately though. but when i shift, its a lil bumpy. just a lil. in gear is not too tight, like 1/2 in-3/4 in movement. know what i mean?

i learned how to drive stick on this car. so, i did go through one clutch, and my friend drove my car and tried to teach me how to do a burnout. i got it, now. but before i held the clutch like .25 sec too long (i tried multiple times, btw) , so, i think this one is like 50 or 60 in human years. i am just prepping in case i need a new one.

Well just remember. Burnoutes are kool.... for the first few times. After that they make u spend more money.

I also forgot the most important question I should have asked.

wat is ur power goals, and wat r u gonna do with the car. (Ex. Drag, autox, road race, daily driver?)

I almost want to tell u work the car up n/a for now untill u really learn how to drive it and then install the turbo.

well, dude, i was just at work. and i make 8.05 an hour. while pushing carts, i think we both came up with the same decision

goal is to (for now) get out of the ricer stage. so, at least, another 40-50 hp.

so, turbo might bite the gas tank and the wallet. and i would love to auto x. but yeah.

i guess for me its not how fast it goes, its how fast it gets there. anyone can drag. i want more. so, i think thats why i want a new tranny. acceleration. not top speed.

5 speed swap and change the final drive ratio! Lots of work, but cheaper than buying all the bolt ons brand new! Takes some work, but its what all the rally drivers do.
