exhaust leak, slow spool on turbo

I have a pre turob exhaust leak on the manifold to where it bolts to the block.
Im not sure how to go about it, the bolts are torqued but its leaking and i guess causeing my turbo to take way to long to spool up.

Is there a certain bolt pattern to correctly get the flange flat against the engine.

How much should a turbo car smoke also, at idel and reving.

ooo gotcha. That sucks man.

I was talking more the header gasket than the seals in the turbo tho.

Ah ok....well after 95k miles, my header gasket is still very much intact. It's burly.

Are we talking a small leak , 1/8 inch gap what , a small gasket leak around the manifold wont make the turbo not spool

Need more info as to what size leak were talking

not to threadjack but if a turbo builds boost but smokes does that mean its junked

If a turbo smokes *period* it means the oil seals are shot and needs to have them replaced. If you stop driving your car the second you see smoke coming from your turbo, you might be able to salvage it as long as you correct the oil flow problem.

i asked because i just bought a used one. it smokes but still built boost, i planned on doing a rebuild anyways, i found one with a 360 thrust washer and all new seals and bearing for $85. thats for the rebuild kit. would that rebuild kit take care of everything that needs replaced? there is no wheel damage or anything, i have had the housing off of it to inspect them.
