death rattle from JRSC

so, my car problems of late are compounding. on top of shot tie rod ends and a rear susp. bushing, and a clutch thats mostly dead i think my SC is dieing.

my gf, who drives my SVT w/JRSC, complained about a rattle from the car. when i could listen to it tonight, u can definatly hear a rattle, that varies with rpm. its sounds like is coming from the blower towards the snout end and it even feels like the vibrations are coming from the blower. it sounds pretty bad, almost crunchy, like "rocks in the engine"

one other point, it still makes full boost when revved. i dont know if thats relevant, but its just another point of data.

i did some u tube searching, and there are lots of SC out there, eaton M90s, that have a coupling in the snout wear out and make a noise exactly like this. is this common for the M62? do we have that same coupling?

another question, can i drive the car like this?

So, can anyone shed some light on this? it is an easy diagnosis? is it toast? rebuildable? sell it for scrap? paperweight?

thanks, Norm

It does sound like its dieing. You do have some good news. Stiegmier can rebuild them and if you want since it will already be off the car and with them, i would let them do a port job to it.

The helmet has a special meaning for many drivers. How important is it to you? - It protects my head.

Do you have any special rituals when the helmet is concerned like many have? - I wipe it so that I can see better.

not that many miles. maybe 40000.

today im gonna take the belt of and check the play in the pulley, to diagnose the coupling. also i'll see if i have been leaking oil out of the snout seal. if im low on oil, then perhaps my snout bearings are on the way out.

one thing i didnt mention above is that the noise seems centered around the snout.

if you are leaking oil out the snout i would definitely bet on a front drive rebuild. For piece of mind i would definitely reccomend steigmeier, and i would also recommend the port job (i had a posting recently about the results of my jrsc bbk results). Now on another note you are gunna pay a pretty penny for it. a local place can probably do the rebuild for cheaper especially once you factor in the shipping cost, so weigh your options. if you can find a local place that has experience rebuilding the front drives and thats all you want then go for it. if you want to rebuild it for maximum reliability and increased performance then go to steigemeier and get it ported while your there.

revive this from the dead.
finished the front drive (snout) rebuild, theres a how-to here:
http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...51#post3296351

so, the lesson i learned, if your snout it leaking oil, periodically you should remove the blower and top it up (it would be difficult and dirty to do it on the car) and maybe replace the oil seal.
Also, check the pulley bolt that it hasnt backed off a bit.
