Quieter Turbo Zetec Exhaust

I have a Turbo Zetec Cougar with a 2.5" Trubendz exhaust with a Magnaflow Muffler(almost straight through). The exhaust seems to resonate around 2,000 RPM and sometimes gets annoying. The muffler is in the middle of the car and there's just pipe in the back. I've read that having a muffler in the middle and having nothing near the tailpipe is not a good idea.

So, does anyone have any recommendations for a resonator and muffler pair that would reduce the 2K resonation without affecting power too much? I was thinking of possibly moving the Magnaflow to the back and adding a resonator or straight muffler to the middle. The Magnaflow I have now is almost straight through with the inlet and outlet at a slight angle inside of the muffler.

Have an exhaust shop splice Magnaflow muffler #14236 into the secondary muffler location just before the rear subframe. I'm fairly certain you will still get some resonance, but it will be significantly reduced. The exhaust will be a bit quieter overall, too, without robbing much, if any, power.

Are you referring to the section that is parallel to the axles?

Do you suggest I keep or remove the Magnaflow I currently have?

Well I don't need a kit since I already have a 2.5" exhaust, and it won't fit since I have a Cougar.

On their website in the Q and A section it says that the stealth exhaust is meant to fit up with their kit. So, I probably won't buy just the stealth muffler either.

Oooops! Missed the part where you said you have a Cougar... lol

On the Focus, there is a straight section for the first muffler, and another section just before the rear subframe for a second muffler, and then a third small muffler attached to the tailpipe. Basically you need to see if there's room somewhere to splice in a second muffler. The part number I posted is the one that fits the Focus' second muffler position with a 2.5" exhaust.

If you do find an area for a muffler, measure the available area and find a Magnaflow that will fit: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/u...asp?shape=oval

My current Magnaflow that's in the middle is oval shaped and like I said it's angled at the inlet and outlet. So, I wonder if I should put it by the tailpipe and add a straight-through magnaflow in the middle section.

My thinking is that maybe I should have the more restricting muffler at the rear.

Best thing to do would be to have a larger oval resonator in the middle, and a full size muffler out back. On strait though muffler such as magnaflow, borla, dynomax, it helps alot if you have offset inlet or outlet opposed to strait through. Quiets it significantly.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "resonator" and "full size muffler"? The terms seem to be used differently depending on the manufacturer. Are there any specific models or manufacturer you can recommend.

Anyone have any thoughts on Vibrant or Hushpower 2 resonators?
