compressor flutter

How bad is the compressor flutter you hear when like your BOV doesnt open fast enough or not at all. Will it eventually work the impeller nut off the shaft if not fixed?

No..... I have 225,000 miles on my Cummins first gen 12v diesel.... they come with no wastegate and no BOV.... have you heard what 30psi of compressor surge sounds like??

I'm still on the original Holset, no shaft play and no signs of anything wrong with the impellers.

When most places start talking about the TINY bit of surge that you MAY have its usually to sell parts... like very expensive BOV's..... just a gimmick nothing more.

In other words, don't spend $200 on a "high quality" HKS SSQV bov like I did when I didn't know better. I bought it for my Talon and figured I'd keep it for the Focus. If you want a bov, the Greddy Type S knock-offs for $50 with a flange/tube is a good option.

Dont get me wrong... theres nothing wrong with having a nice BOV (I have a GReddy Type S) but all these people that keep on claiming turbo damage are only looking to make a quick buck on you're "not knowing"

There is a few things a BOV does , between shifts it keeps the psi from slowing or stopping the turbin wheel when you let off the throttle body and the throttle body closes

With out a bov and you let off the throttle it puts undue stress in the wheel , shaft , bearings , Its best to run a BOV even a low budget BOV like the Greddy RS knockoff on ebay , Me I like them for the money

I was running the knock off rs and i took it off one day and noticed it was seized shut. So all it did was flutter. I bought the ngr type s not to long ago and it flutters a bit then you can here it open. Thanks tho i just wanted to make sure

With the NGR Type-S, if you are running low boost, you need to open the top of it, remove the small spring, and then only hook up the top nipple to the IM. This is what I did with mine and I don't have any flutter whatsoever.

^^^ I did that yesterday and the BOV stays open because there isnt enough spring pressure to keep it closed under vaccum. I turned the setting to its hardest also. I can understand why you wouldnt get flutter when its not closed until you hit boost.

And damn your car sounds good man. What did it dyno at?
