KO3S Why would it be a bad idea for this turbo?

Ko3s is the same turbo used on that 03+ gti/jetta 1.8t's

Most of them can get about 280 hp out of it, I'm not looking for a huge boosted output, just some extra power.

I can find ko3s's for 175-300, way cheaper than a bigger turbo, less lag ( i know less output, less topend etc)

Educate me on why this would be retarded?

Btw I used to have a 1.8t, and had lots of fun with it. (ran a 14.6 stock at the track)

Why would you want the ultra fast spool this turbo would give you going from a 1.8 to a 2.0 engine , Are you after more tire spin ?

It is far to small a turbo to really work good on the Focus , if you want to save some cost turbo isnt the way to go , Buy a good turbo about 650 - 750.00 it will spool very well and make good TQ with out spinning tires and not going anywhere

The 1.8 is a far better and more efficient engine then the Focus

It always cracks me up when people want to use OEM turbos. Do it right the first time people!

IT was just an idea, I enjoyed the driveability of the 1.8t, even while chipped. You are right though, there would be a large amount of wheel spin.

It wouldnt be doing it wrong, if all I wanted was a small/mild power inc.

Either way, thanks for the opinions.

John, maybe if yours is curved like that...sure.

Going through the trouble of boosting an SVT just to pull 200whp with a wimpy turbo *is* doing it wrong. You'll grow tired of that kind of power very quickly. Then if you have to change turbos, you would probably need your downpipe modded, perhaps an external wastegate setup installed, etc etc. Doing it right means using good parts that have room to grow.

Take it from me. I have an IHI that has a .42AR Cold side and .48AR hot side on my 2.3L Dtec and it is super fast spool and by no means putting out much HP. It hits peak boost off of idle and chokes after 4000rpm.
