To turbo...or not to turbo??

Hey guys,

Just curious. Who thinks that the amount of money you would have to spend on a turbo setup for the focus would be worth the horsepower you gain from it. I'm trying to decide if I will ever turbo the fofo but i'm really skeptical that the amount of money spent on the kit isn't worth the amount of power you get from it. Opinions anyone?

if your looking to go 10 secs in the quarter mile, get another car. If you want a great handling, quick sprinting, rice eater then go with the turbo focus :-D

Unfortunately it's not as easy as replacing spark plugs......you'll have troubles from start to finish. That is if you ever get finished. Basically, from a cost effective stand-point, if you want to go faster, trade the Focus for a faster car.

If you have enough money to afford two cars.......make your Focus into a hobby car. Buy that turbo kit. It'll be a learning experience for sure. Maybe not what you wanted to learn, however.

ha I started a thread w/ this exact title a while back. ended up doing it. to me, totally worth it. its a lot of money to spend all at once (unless you diy, but still a lot of money) the best part is being able to say you have a turbo'd focus (not an everyday car) and ofcourse its plenty of fun driving down the road listening to your turbo music lol

I've been thinking of doing something like what Bluefront said. Except buy a project car and work on that overa long stretch of time. I mean the 270 or so hp the FSWerks Stage 2 kit says it puts out on the 2.0 Dura is nice and all but to get that I would be spending almost 4k to do it. That's a lot of money to pay at once. I do want the learning experience from turboing a car but I worry about the reliability issues since it would be my DD. I'm so torn! I want higher hp but that's a lot of cash to get there. I worry that doing a DIY kit requires more knowledge than I have at the moment.

If you keep doing the proper research for turbo set ups for the duratec; the install of a DIY kit should not be a problem. Tuning the car will take a expert for sure.

I've decided to undertake the DIY yourself turbo project for my car. I have all the parts I need but I have to find time when I can go without a car for at least a good 4 or 5 days (custom intercooler piping). I also have a base turbo tune so I can at least drive the car to the McNews to be properly tuned.

I've learned a lot about turbos, proper set up, pros, cons, etc in the past year ive been researching them. I love my focus and don't care if its the fastest car on the road or not. I've got the pride of doing all the work on it myself :-D
