Help! What turbo? Not a Focus...

Okay, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to turbo-stuffs, but I'm asking you guys on behalf of my brother who just put an ebay turbo in his 93 Del Sol. I guess the turbo broke/melted or something after taking the car up and down the road a few times.

Anyway, he needs a new turbo and I want to know what you think he should buy.

Here is what he told me the specs of his turbo are/were:
Knock-off garret.
T3/T4 hybrid
3inch diameter inlet
2inch outlet
.50 A/R compressor
.63 A/R turbine .57 trim

If anyone can help choose a good brand and model, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Depends on which motor is in that del sol. Does it have the stock D16 or a B series swap? If you're running the D16, I would advice going smaller. The GT28R would be... ok, and with a .60 a/r compressor, it would be better on the bottom end than what he just melted.

If you want my honest opinion, save the money for the turbo, do a B series swap (B18B1 from 3rd gen integra or the B18C1 or C5 from the GSR or Type-R) and he'll be able to make sooooooooooo much more power. A stock LS-Vtec (B18B1 short block w/ B18C5 top end) w/ a cai, exhaust, and tune will put out just as much if not more than that D16 will put out boosted.

Another thing is just check around the honda forums: clubintegra.com, honda-tech.com, etc... he could find a nice used turbo for a good price. DSM turbo swaps are usually pretty popular as well and fairly easy to tune for.

There is a white del slow around here with a full GSR swap and it is scary. I think hes actually getting ready to boost it also. The only one i have every seen that i like.

I would deff tell him to save for a swap if hes still running the d16. They are just turds.

Saw a video of a guy with a built D16 running 403whp on "low boost' with race gas. Not defending it, but it's not a complete turd if you put money into it, haha. He was running a GT30R and oh my gawd, the lag was insane.

Thanks, He is running the d16 and I don't think he will be swapping the motor.

You didn't tell me it melted! I hope he's learned to actually do some research before spending ridiculous amounts of money...
