emmisions legal turbo?

So how hard would it be to build an emissions legal turbo? My county in ohio has the dreaded echeck. I've questioned this build before but got laid off. Well I'm back to work and wanna try to have this built over the winter. I'm sure tom will read this and give his comment, and I hope they arnt, move to another county! I really wanna do this but that stupid cat converter is attached to my exhaust manifold! (Poor design) thanks in advance!

It depends on what your allowed to do in your county , If they are like here you cant even install a high flow cat and it be legal , change the header or alter the exh system in any way

Now it will come down to what your inspection station inspector says and does , I would go tell him what the plan is and see what he says , I would talk with 2 or 3 places about it and see what they would do if they looked at it

Tom

I am still running my post cat conv with mine. I know that i shouldn't but I am trying to keep it as legit as possible. I know that F2 has their new tubular manifold coming. Maybe someone could pass it off as an OEM and try to get the heat sheild back on. I know it had ports for the O2 sensors almost in the factory locations. How will they know if its covered up and the sensors are active?

I am talking about a Duratec... I am sure the Zetec could pass off a header just as good. Got to know the right people! Luckily in Hawaii I only need a muffler and thats it. No cats required... I got to see what my next commands local area says about emissions and what not...

If the vehicle came O.E. with a catalyctic convertor, then it is federal law that it remain on the vehicle. In states that have annual safety inspections, the vehicle wont pass inspection with the catalyctic convertor removed. I know, as I am a licensed state safety inspector.

Yeah, I know what you mean Dean. They had talked about bringing back that damn E-check here as well. That was another reason for me to put my cat back on.

D.Boone is right......removal of an OEM converter is illegal anywhere. And you all know what these things are on there for, I hope. This inspection thing is likely to get worse in the next few years. I'd just hold off for a while. Maybe this current insanity will just go away...but not likely.

How'd you like to invest 5K in a turbo setup.....then not be able to get a license?

I do agree with you Boone. Although my last vehicle (2000 Lightning) I had my clogged cats removed and opted not to put new ones on. State of Hawaii only requires mufflers. I ended up with twin Super 40's in the end w/o cats. That thing was so damn loud, but it had mufflers and it passed inspection
