Exclamation The Turbo Mustang Saga PICS ADDED

A few weeks back I picked up a turbo'd Fox and it needed just a little minor work (mainly cleaning up the tune) but other than that it was in pretty descent shape.

I messed around with stuff like the cooling system, getting more air to go through the intercooler, made a CAI for it... just basic small stuff that I wanted to do.

The other day I had just gotten the car where I wanted it and I decided I was going to change the oil in it. After the oil was drained I went to put the plug back in the pan and I heard this odd "clink". Well I got out the flashlight and shined it up into the drain hole and low and behold there was a BOLT laying in the pan.

Well first thing I thought was ..... (anyone wanna guess at what was smilied out?) I really couldnt tell what kind of bolt it was but I was hoping it wasnt a rod bolt.

So I pull the pan loose... BUT I cant get the damn thing off.... Its about a 9 quart pan with the double sump on it (one on each side of the K member) but the pan did come down enough to get a magnet in there and retrieve the bolt. Well its NOT a rod bolt or a Main cap bolt... I have no clue to what it goes to.

After looking I decide that if I take the steering rack off I may be able to get the pan off..... NOPE... pan wont drop far enough. So I unbolt the motor from the mounts and try again... NOPE still not enough room. Next I took all the piping off of the engine (intake and charge piping to allow for more movement) Nope still not enough. Next I break out my engine hoist... almost but not quite.

I'm at the point that I dont even care anymore.... I'm SURE the bolt did not come out of this motor (since all of the other bolts you can see are ARP's) BUT I cant take the chance in case I'm wrong.... plus I cant get the new oil pan gasket on without taking the pan off...

So now I'm trying to decide on which route to take.... do I....

1) unbolt the engine from the tranny and pull it out like that (straight up)

2) leave them together, take off the front of the car and pull it out that way

3) Jack it up (even though its alreay on the lift) and try to drop out the K member

OR

4) push it outside and set fire to it.......

All of this from a g oil change.........

How big is the bolt? Was it in the front or rear part of the pan? It may be an oil pump bolt. luckily whatever it is you found it before starting the car. Try and undo the motor mounts and lift the engine up-should get 3-4 inches before the trans hits the tunnel.

The problem is that it has the front sump oil pump in it and its needs about 7-9 inches of clearence to get the pan off of it.

Besides I cant afford to let the motor get hurt... Its one of the new 302BOSS blocks, Bryant crank, Oliver Rods, Venolia Pistons, AFR heads, ect........
