just a thought...

I've got this svt header kit in my garage collecting dust. Reason being is I'm wanting to go forced induction. The jrsc is really appealing to me but in the long run I know I'd want more power.

I was thinking of a remote turbo setup using the svt header. Most zetec kits have the turbo up front but I was thinking of placing it behind the motor for a more stealth approach.

Svt header, orp, custom pipe to turbo inlet, turbo, down pipe, and flex attached at the end before it meets the rest of the exhust.

Has anyone tried this before? I know I can have all the piping fabbed up pretty easily. Just wanted some thoughts and input before I start. Thanks guys.

Would be cool if you're not using an intercooler, since you can just run the intake piping straight up to the manifold. I would skip the ORP and mount the turbo just behind the motor. Header -> uppipe -> turbo -> downpipe -> flex -> exhaust.

If you're going to run an intercooler, I'd keep the turbo up front.

I was thinking the same exact thing yesterday! You are not talking a real remote turbo setup, with the turbo at the back of the car, right? You want it just behind the motor.

I was thinking a smallish turbo too to minimize lag and respond well to the flow of the SVT header.

I personally don't have huge power dreams. I would mostly want to do FI for the uniqueness of a SVT header Turbo setup.

Well I said orp because the header stops under the pan. I as gonna just get a pipe made with the right flange on it for the turbo to mount to.

And I probably would run a small intercooler. There are a few paths the intake piping could run and not get too hot.
-could run it to the passenger side over near the coolant reservor
-or heat wrap it and have it run next to the header for about 7 or 8 inches then bend it away towards the intercooler inlet.
- or possibly a custom top mount intercooler with some hood work

My imagination is running wild right now.

Edit: I'm only looking for 250-280 horse. That's more than enough to turn heads around here lol. Specially from a "stock" looking sedan.

I would probably try to go without an Intercooler for the simplicity of it.

How much PSI could a Zetec take without an intercooler?

About 5, seriously. CFM said they saw intake temps of 250* @ 6 psi. That's gonna kill your power.

there was a guy that done a remote turbo on FJ a long time ago. lag seriously sucked bad. he ran a small turbo and it spooled like a large one. if you want stealth just tell people it isnt turbo... most people wound know a turbo if you hit them in the face with one.

Lol I noticed. There shouldn't be much lag its not going to be at the rear of the car, just tucked behind the motor and above the steering rack. The only thing I'm worried about is how the turbo will sit, which way to face it, and how to keep my rack n pinion from getting really warm...I'm sure I can shield it somehow.

Keep the info comin guys and gals I've got lots of ideas written on paper here lol
