rebuilding my turbo

i'm going to give this a shot since i ahve a lot of the tools necessary. (wrenches, snapring pliers, and time)
ive got the old thing apart and will be doing a rebuild on it
the first post is also a question for tom
http://www.gpopshop.com/garrettt3kits.html
there is the link for the rebuild kits. i take it i'll need the one for the t3/t4 turbos?
(its about the third one down on the page for 90.00) or will i need a different one?

i shouldnt have the rebalance the shaft. that was done when it was built. i'm jsut replacing the seals and whatnot. the shaft is fine. no bends or nothin. a seal went out in it and i'd like to at least make an attempt at rebuilding this one. if it works it's be awesome to say i did it. if not... then i need to buy a new turbo.

No, You have to rebalance it , and you dont have a way to balance it to 24,000+ RPM

You will be far better off buying a new turbo with a warranty , No one that I know has home rebuilt a turbo and it last 6 months

well that's a bunch of crap.
what ever happened to an affordable turbo kit?
looks like i'll just go and buy new since there's no point in trying to repair and rebuild tihs one. and that's gonna be over a grand.
great. looks like i wont be able to be turboed at all before this thing rots out from underneath me.

Boost isnt cheap , Anyone here will tell you that , tuning alone will be close to or over 1000.00

1st rule dont cut corners and do it righ the first time and it is much cheaper

What kit do you have ?

your old one. i picked it up for 1500.
i know it's not cheap. but if i have to buy a new turbo i will ahve euqalled the price of a jrsc. i was planning to use my tax return to get a built motor but i guess that'll never happen this year. with me being so far away from anything resembling a performance shop i ahve to ship everything around. that pretty much doubles the price of any work i need done.

I know a guy here in town that has a semi-truck with a "custom" turbo. THis special turbo of his has to be rebuilt about every 5-6 months by his expensive "turbo specialist", which is where he is going wrong in the first place.

Dont be like him. He's a douche.
