Worth it to upgrade from 2.5" to 3" exhaust???

I already have a 3" flex back tru-bendz exhaust. Im about to order a new flex section. The stock flex is 2.5" id, test pipe is 2.5" id, and header is a little over 2.5" id after porting.

If I buy a 3" flex im going to make a 3" test pipe so I have 3" header back.

One thing stopping me--- Is a 3" flex and 3" test pipe goin show a decent gain over 2.5"?

3" exhaust is very common on boosted cars and shows great benfits (my 86 300zx turbo showed HUGE improvement) But that was compared to a stock exhaust

I just dont want to spend hours fabricating a 3" test pipe out of mandrel bends just to gain 3whp over my mandrel 2.5" test/flex.

Im also installing a crank overdrive pulley so re-tuning is already a must anyway as soon as I pull her outa my garage

The SVT seems to like large Exh so 3 inch will help , question is does it help vs the cost that has to be answered by your wallet

On boosted cars it helps spool up and upper end

i'm not sure about on the focus, but on the SRT4 it won't get you much over a 2.5 . i have a 3" O2 housing, 3" dp, and 2.5 dp back, and my buddy who had the exact same mods as me and the same amount of boost with a 3" tbe. i still have the faster time out of the two of us.

my opinion is, if you were going from stock or a 2.25, then i would say go for it. but since you already have 2.5, and you would only see maybe 5hp increase at the most, don't do it. it would be more time and money for what it is worth and you could put the money you save from not doing it towards something that will net you a little more gains. just my .02
