Stg 2 Turbo 2.3 ATX

Hey, I just got done talking to Vik on the phone over at FocusSport and he really sold me on the idea on getting the turbo. I will be running it very conservative at 7psi, I dont think I will even put the boost controller in because I dont want the temptation. I was originally going to put only Stg 1 but after hearing the difference in IAT's from the intercooler, I have to go stg 2. So the reason im here, do I need to run gauges? I was thinking about oil temp and a boost gauge. Im looking to keep the entire set-up under 4,500. So I have about 500 dollars to play with. Dad is making me invest the other half of my money, grrrrr. Please I dont want to hear about bitching about you shouldnt be turboing a atx. The guys I talked to that keep it undercontrol are fine. The ones that I talked to that go to the strip and drag it 15 times a night end up blowing it, duh. This christmas while Im at LSU I will bring my car to a transmission guy that lives across from my grandma and has known me since I was baby so I will probably get the trans work for free. Just FYI I have spent the past couple months looking at SVT's and I looked at 3 and had no luck. So if I could have gone MTX I would have.

At the bare minimum, I would have boost and oil pressure. The boost gauge is important to make sure you're not over-boosting for whatever reason. A boost spike can cause engine damage. Oil pressure is nice to have to make sure you're not blowing oil all over the highway if something breaks (not that I know from experience or anything ). A wideband A/F gauge is a great safety monitoring tool, but can be quite pricey. Of course, not nearly as costly as a blown motor.

I would run at least Boost, EXT Temp (Pyrometer) and Oil Pressure Gauges. But that's just me. I don't want to hurt my engine so it's worth investing on gauges to keep tabs of whats going on.

I was thinking about getting one of those LC-1, they show air to fuel. Now that I think of it Oil Pressure would show a problem alot faster than a Oil Temp gauge. Whats a decent site to get a oil pressure and boost gauge at? BTW where do you tap the gauges in? Would you T your boost before your wastegate?

Are you having the ATX rebuilt with heavy duty clutches and a non plastic finned torque converter installed?
