how to feel onset of heatsoak, and how to avoid it?

Summer's here in Boston, and temperatures are climbing fast. I'm gonna get my car from McNews soon, and looking forward to driving it around. I've heard anecdotally that the PWSC heatsoaks easily. What would I see or feel when this happens? What I only see higher temperatures on the engine temp gauge and feel less power?

The only thing I know to avoid is long idling in stop and go traffic. Anything else? Try to park in the shade?

I'm no expert on the situation, but I believe it just the fact that your air intake tubing is just going to get hot and your car won't perform as good as it could. I don't believe your engine temp will increase, but you'll just feel a power loss. And I believe the best thing for any non intercooled forced induction is a vented hood. But once again I'm not an expert.

Its pretty hard to stop it from happening. Like Rabbit said just power loss no damage to worry about ect...

FAQ is putting a CAI on it to help prevent that. From what I have herd thats bad as its harder for the PWSC to draw in air and compress it.

PWSC is intercooled... so heatsoak will be less then say a JRSC.. just realize that you will see ( maybe feel ) a power loss when heatsoak occurs

i would think that a good way to help fight it off is to wrap your intake tube with something. i don't know if header wrap would work, but it is worth a shot to try and keep your intake air from being heated by the heat coming off the engine. hope you get it figured out man.

Moved on to bigger and better things. the ride: SRT4 with 230 whp stock!!! i loved the focus but this one is just a better car for what i want. not so stock anymore. pushing 307whp/301wtq @ 19 psi.

Remember to FILTER vent your Valve Cover breather tube to the Atomsphere so the hot engine blow off will not return to your intake and contribute to warmer IATs.
