Went to get a tune, cluster shows ----

Went to get tuned for turbo, removed ecu, installed chip, can't start. Gauge cluster just shows ---- Removed the chip and the same ---- comes up. No start.

Put in an old (known good) sct chip. Chip LED lights up, but still, ---- on the gauge cluster.

Don't think the PATS is activated, dash LED does the normal slow blink.

Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Car is still at the tuners, dead :-(

PATS system should be active if the light is blinking slowly. It would do the opposite if it wasn't active.

When you switched chips, was it one you previously owned or one off another focus with a different engine code.

I'm thinking that your PATS is active but doesn't recognize the keys anymore for some reason.

Sounds like you took the chip out with key on and fried the ECU. There is a ECU fuse in the under the hood fuse box but have never seen one bad

Not good news. :-(

All fuses under the hood and inside were checked with a meter and were all good. Getting a tow to the dealer on monday to have things checked out.

Would a fried ecu still power the LED on a SCT chip?

The ECU fuse cant be checked with a volt meter it is the black fuse about middle right and has to be changed or ohm to be checked OUT of its holder

Not good but at least you know where the problem is.

Make sure to ask about your pats code for your keys so you don't get hit with any surprise service charges.

Heh, the LAST place I check is a dealership (for most things). Have one on the way overnighted for 40 bucks shipped.

Thank you all for the input. Much appreciated!
