Question Turbo MPG vs. Stock MPG

the title says it all. i've heard some off hand comments that a turbo gives better MPG than a stock engine. I'm talking of normal driving and not racing around using the turbo and i know that a less restrictive exhaust and intake go along with the turbo, but just wanted an estimate of what can be expected. thanks.

if the tune is good it should get equal/better mileage than stock.. you will be getting a more efficient burn of the fuel with the tune.

Adding a turbo wont get better mileage but if it's tuned right then your mileage will not suffer especially on highway driving. Usually the city driving will be slightly reduced but that really depends on how hard you drive.

do all turbo's eventually blow their engines? Cause I've heard people say they are great for a few thousand miles and then capput, that'd be unacceptable. Not trying to thread jack, just been on my mind and you guys seem to know what you're talking about.

^^^ no... depends how they are maintained and how well the tune is... there is no reason the engine should blow up just because of a turbo or supercharger for that matter... also how you drive would play a factor in that as well... but in that case... a stock engine can blow at any time too....

i had a turbo on my previous 4cyl, and it had no issue, but you need to make sure it gets the coolant/oil it needs. very important.

oh, and got much less mpg with the turbo than without it. dunno why people are saying it would be better....

not being sarcastic, but how big is your tank? i get 360-385 miles on 11-12 gallons at fillup. 14 gallon tank.

so after all this, it seems that with a kit (and tune) that i might see 2 mpg better or at least stay even during normal commuting. then again we're talking 3000+ kit, 200+ exhaust, possible IM at 700+ getting me about 80% more power and possibly 2 MPG better. then again it would be on premium gas which would negate the increased MPG.

oh man...if only i won the lottery.

oh, and the clutch and lsd at 1000+.
