Question Please help with a turbo. Please?!

Okay. To start I have a 07' ZX4 St. Short Steeda intake and tornado airflow insert in the tubing. Custom exhaust from a great exhaust shop in town. Nothing else done to the engine. Subs and all that and tinted windows. Black17" Sacchi wheels. Black custom painted headlights. I love the black on black thing. Okay done here.

I want a turbo really badly. I have enough money for whatever but I need your guys's expertise. THis website is amazing with the way people help you out. Love it.

Please tell me of any and all turbos (or superchargers, but I heard they don't have any for the 2.3 yet). Turbo and everything else I need to go with it. All the little pieces and stuff like that. And what else I need to know about having a turbo put on and having it stay on with no hard to the engine.

I live in Hermiston Oregon. I know no one does it here but maybe up in Tri-Cities Washington 30 miles north? Portland Oregon for sure but I would rather not drive 180 miles.

Please and thank you fanatics!!!!!!!

Brent Driscoll

focus sport is the only kit out right now for the duratec. it comes with everything you need for the turbo. it can be installed on a completely stock focus. a larger exhaust is recomended. but you have that so it doesn't matter. you should probably post in the forced induction forum to get some technical help.

First... ditch the tornado, it does nothing but block the airflow to your motor.

Second... what exactly are you wanting out of your car... a little quicker and more fun to drive? or are you looking for significantly higher performance?

Depending on what you are looking for I believe a FocusSport Stage 1 turbo would meet your needs. It would put you over 200 whp and make your car a completely different animal. However if you are looking at going over that then I reccomend you seriously consider what you are getting into.

Although FS makes it easy to get into a turbo, there are other expenses you need to consider. Gauges, a wideband, and although not required, a clutch and flywheel are recommended. Tuning is not a concern, since FS offer lifetime tuning with their kits.

Hope this helps...

Thanks.

Ditch the tornado? Okay I'll take your word for it. You know more than I do. I don't want to go crazy I just want a stage one just so I have a turbo in my car. What else should I know though? What are the costs of everything I need once I have a turbo? And do you guys recommend other mods like short throw shifters, headers, clutches and flywheels? Thanks again for your hlep. Everything you reply back to helps me out a ton!

Brent.

stage 2 from focussport is a good reassurance part too... the intercooler will help cool the air, thus giving more power and preventing detonation more. so its kinda safety precaution too.

and sinse its a 4cyl car, there is and only ever will be one header on your car.

but if you get a turbo, you dont need a header becasue the kit will come with a turbo manifold.

and gauges arent required by focussport's kit because they tune it safely, you'll only need to keep an eye on gauges when you start squeezing more and more power out of a tune, and start to modify the turbo kit and exhaust for more power.

From the sounds of things a Stg I would be fine for you. Check out FocusSports website for pricing and additional product. Header will be a waste of money since the turbo manifold would replace it anyway. Short throw shifter is an inexspensive mod, but more of a preference than a necessity (I love my steeda BTW). And unless you really dog yours, or look into making more power in the future, the stock clutch is fine for Stg 1.

As HonHon said, a Stg 2 is safer because you add the intercooler to cool the air charge. Again, for the power gains you are wanting, the Stg 1 is more than enough, and if it wasn't safe... FocusSport wouldn't be selling it.

^^^ but focussport doesnt say that you can or cannot beat on it with stage 1, but its a rule of thumb that when a turbo'd engine gets hotter and the charged air gets hotter from a lack of an intercooler, you'll get detonation.
