centrifical superchargers

I just had a question reguarding centrifical superchargers and turbo for the focus for those of you who know anything about this. Ive been looking through threads for a month now about diffrent types of FI, and have learned a lot, but came up with a few questions...

I have driven a roots type sc car, a pontiac GTP(this has quite a bit more displacement than the 2.0L zetec), and with the roots type you reach its potential almost right off the bat, but at the top end of the rpm range it suffers. Well I was wondering what a Centrifical supercharger feels like when it hits/produces boost?

Also I have driven an Audi TT, with the 1.8L turbo engine, the turbo on it produced boost instantly(according to the boost gauge), but it takes it a second to smash you back into the seat, but does so pretty hard, which is always fun, however the car I was driving jerks at idle(has a semi-auto tranny, you can shift it manually w/o a clutch, or put it in full auto) with the brakes off, just rolling, no gas. I was wondering if this is an innate characteristics of turbo, or if this is just a problem with the cars tune or a diffrent mechanical problem, in other words if i go turbo i dont want my car to act this way and I have a MTX in my focus.

Sorry if these questions are stupid, but remeber I am a new and any info will be greatly appreciated, never went with FI for power, only more displacement, and only with engines over 5 L displacement, or dirtbike and enduro bike motors =<650cc displacement, just trying to figure out the focus's deal.

Centrifugal is the correct spelling. I have the Procharger on my 02 ATX and as soon as I hit the gas it's gone! And it's not even fully tuned yet. I was just playing around with one day. I have never driven a vehicle with a roots style sc.

^^ sry about the spelling, Im a dumba ...

so basically you hit the gas and it keeps making power all the way till it shifts, like it never hits a point where it feels like there is a flat spot like a roots type sc?

depends where u hit the gas...if it's around 2000rpm my 8PSI PC is producing only 1PSI of boost and then going up until redline.Basically off the line you will be much faster with root SC, but once you hit higher RPMs, then centrifugal is better.....

i have a pw'd zx3. as you probably know it uses a roots blower. the only "flat spot" i feel is between 1000-1600 rpm's haha. look at some dyno sheets of the pw kit. on my sheet peak whp is at redline. peak wtq is at 4900 rpm's.

p.s. just to clarify...

i wasn't trying to argue or anything. i was just suggesting that the powerband on our motors with root-style blowers may be different than what you have experienced before.

^^yeah im pretty clueless, I havnt seen a dyno sheet of the powerworks, only of the JRSC, the Vortec, procharger and probably hundreds of turbos, and I appreciate the help

Yeah the flat spot i was talking about was once the pontiac got past a certain rpm range the power seemed to die a little(meaning it needed to be shifted), both the cars i have driven in the past had some serious mileage on them too, the pontiac with 100K, the TT with 50k(well i guess thats not a lot), ill take a look at those dyno sheets though.

I have no idea what Im going to do if anything, im just looking around experimenting with some ideas right now, so anything you can tell me will help

Im also not looking for a 300 hp engine, a 180 hp, 150-170 ft/lbs of torque(more important) engine will put me in a very happy spot, which is why im looking at sc, I also dont really like the sudden burst of power a turbo gives, well not on a daily driver, I do use the car for a lot of travel and dont need a beast, i still want fairly good mpgs and with more power comes more gasoline typically, just something to keep me a little entertained, but also stays mostly maintence free

V8focus1 has a pw on his car and he is making 260+ whp and his car is all out power from the time you hit the gas untill you bump the rev limit. You smash it and it instantly makes 10psi and its gone doesnt matter what the rpms are at its there whenever you want it.

^^^^ i'm only making whats in my sig.. but i feel the same way. i feel like when i drive it gentle, its a calm DD with fair gas mileage (approx 27mpg when i drive nice). but as soon as i lay into the gas the car really comes to life. and the power doesn't end until i hit the rev limiter.

the flat spot you are describing might be the result of a few conditions. keep in mind this is only speculation here... when roots-style blowers are spun quicker, they produce more heat (duh). the hotter they get, the more inefficient they are. with the base pw kit (no bbk) the sc is being spun much less than its limit. the cars you have driven may have been pushing the blower to its limit, thus making it fall on its face when it spun faster. however, i could be completely off base here.

perhaps you could post something in your regional forum about getting a ride in pw'd, pc'd, and turbo'd foci. that way you'll be comparing apples to apples.

also, after reading your goals... i think you would be very happy with the jrsc or pw kit.
