Turbo Build

I've been considering going with FI instead of just getting headers and ORP's and all that. Right now I have a Short ram intake and 2.5" exhaust, STS shifter , racing wires and few other small things. I was planning on getting cam gears, cams, headers, HFC etc...But It's obvious I'd get a lot more power out of a turbo.

However money is always the issue. What I really want to know is all the parts needed to build your own turbo setup, if you say, got a real good deal on a garret (just the turbo itself), what other parts, hoses, wiring, pipes, tuning, intercoolers, etc. would need to build the whole setup. And is this cheaper than just buying a kit? I imagine it would be...

Anyways if I were ever to do this it would be in a couple of months so I have plenty of time to think about it and just want a little feedback...

Thanks

This would be better off in the F/I section of the forums, but it can be done and many have. It can get expensive to build your own setup rather than buy a kit, but, with some good deals, you can also get away pretty cheap too. Just do a search for "custom turbo" and you will find everything you need.

You can usually build your own kit cheaper by shopping around. Kits are definitely more 'complete'.

You can save a bit by buying an ebay FMIC and piping. Getting someone's used injectors will also cut the cost a bit.

What I meant is that if you buy everything new, a custom setup is going to cost more than a kit. If you scrounge for parts and watch for deals, you can save a LOT of money.
