PW question

hey guys.. i have been thinking about going with the powerworks kit. now about what i want i just had some questions. this is what i have been thinking:

upgraded pistons, rods
10.5:1 compression
stage 2 cams
FR head

i already have the svt header kit and bosal cat back. now would i be able to use that ecu reflash you get when you send the ecu back to them? or would they make a different tune for me? cuz isn't that reflash for a stock focus correct?

or would i have to get a xcal 2 and get it tuned?

Powerworks (and others) will tell you that the kit is intentionally made for a bone stock engine. The 10.5:1 compression is not needed and most will tell you to be safe bring it down using a thicker head gasket. You could also save your money skip the pistons, rods, cams, head and go right to the Powerworks. If you want more power than the Powerworks in stock form then you may want to look at the Procharger or better yet go turbo.

As far as the tune if you have a chip already and an experienced tuner they can tune it for you leaving your ECU untouched. Yes, I do believe that when you have your ECU reflashed they do it based on your car being stock. As far as a custom tune you would have to talk to them but because of liability issues (you blowing an engine) they may be reluctant to deviate from the standard Powerworks tune. If you really have your heart set on a custom tune then the Xcal or SCT would be the way to go.

Good luck.

No, that will be fine. What size is the cat-back 2.5"? That would be good.................

I have the PW kit, 9:1 compression, eagle rods, Fr head and the BBK and made 280hp well worth it IMHO.

10.5-1 is not needed

The FR2s are good, just don't add too much to them or you will get blow by which will dork up your fuel/air ratios.

The FR head is a good choice, but port match the PW manifold to the head for maximum performance.

The xcal2 paints with a broad brush and your setup would be a bit custom, get a good professional tune.

Well, to a certain degree yes but you need to watch boost as well pressures if you do. Your best bet for power is a MSS 2.4" pulley.
