Thinking about going turbo, need advice on the matter!

Sup guys so im kinda getting tired of my ATX and of being N/A. So I think Im gonna swap out my tranny and convert to a manual and go turbo. Now I know most of you guys may say that trading it in for a manual is a better thing but not in my case cause I'm about to completely pay off my focus and don't want to get into a new account for a new car. So im gonna go with a tranny swap and go turbo. I've been thinking about installing either a GT28 or a GT30 turbo. What I need to know is this. Where can I look into exhaust manifolds for the focus, what size injectors would be more fitting to either of those two turbos, which turbo do u think it's best for my 2.0L Zetec, any other hardware that i might need( fuel rail, wastegate, BOV, hoses, fittings, clamps, and all that) and what would be the best engine management to tune my ride after everything is bolted up. I've been looking around to see if I could tune it with a greedy e-manage but so far I haven't found any info on that. How much horsepower i can get without affecting or putting to much stress on my stock internals etc etc. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to forced induction but with a little knowledge and can do attitude I figure I can get this project done. Any info would be much appreciated and welcome.

Thanks in Advance!

By the way I'm looking to get initially at least 230 to 260 whp. If i go turbo future after that would come new pistons and rods and camshafts and cam gears. Also what PSI would be safe to run in stock internals!

k number one congrats on picking a TC over a SC (j/k) number two what power range you looking at? The GT30 will be too big for a stock eng, i have a build eng and i think the GT2871 that i'm picking is too big. I would recommend on using no more then 10psi (w/ a very good tune) and you will not get thos numbers with a stock eng w/o blowing something up. Maybe 230 but thats pushing it. Another problem i see w/ your project is that i hope you know a lot about cars to swap the trans and i'm assuming you want to do it yourself cuz you are crazy to pay that much money to a shop to do that. And what kit do you think of using? If you want to do it yourself then i wish you even more luck b/c it is very hard and time consuming. A lot of ppl tried and failed and only a hand full of people did it and they are the ppl that do something on that line as work. So i'm not saying you can't just should read a lil more about this before you start, b/c then it will cost you much more in the end.
Good luck.

yeah i know... swapping the tranny is no easy work but I've seen some people that have done it and seen their success. It will be hard but at least I have a mechanic that will help me on the swap when I get the tranny. As for building the kit yeah i know what u mean it's not an easy task but there are a lot of performance parts shops near where I live and I know a few people who have turbo'ed their focus and can help me in that area now.

BTW thanks for the comments focus zts helpful info so far. Still no one has answerd my other question. Would an greedy e-manage work for the tunning. I'm asking because it's a good EMS. And i was kinda thinking of a stand-alone EMS like that for the tunning. Although a lot of people here are partial to SCT so...

Comments still welcome by the way!!!

Ow sorry forgot to answer that one. I say use the stock one. I use a stock one, everybody i asked told me to use a stock one and even Tom insisted me using a stop comp. Just get a Diablo or a SCT chip and get a tune.

CRAZY! I have an ATX! I would never go through all the work to change my focus to an MTX! Beef UP your Atx. I got a lentech and I Love it! You don't have to get a Lentech but with a few tranny upgrades and a good tune your ATX will work hard for you and will last. Changing the tranny you will have to change a lot including the settings on the ecu. I just don't think it is worth it especially if you are only looking to boost 10psi. Which I do agree, that is the most you should push on stock internals. I also agree that diablo or SCT are the way to go! I would not piece together a turbo. I bought the Roush kit and it came with everything I needed. To compliment the GT28 or a GT30 turbo, I would go with new pistons and rods, intercooler, boost controller, diablo mafia, SCT dyno tuning, 3 in down pipe and full exhaust, poly engine mounts, wastegate, and turn up the boost some more! You will easily hit 260 Whp!

220 whp is the most you should run on stock internals. that is ~12psi. i am running 219whp at 11.5psi on Toms tune. it has run great so far.

tuning you can either use a flasher, chip, or full softwar program. for some one who doesnt know how to tune a chip or flasher will do fine. the chips, flashers, and software are made buy diablo and sct. and a dyno tune on this (recomend Tom from Focus-Power ).

42lb injectors for 220whp, stock fuel rail and fuel pump are fine.

t3super60 turbo is the main turbo used for our cars. recomended by tom usually. gt2871 is what john used to make ~360whp. its excessive for 220whp.

turbo manifold will either have to be custom made or wait till some one puts one up for sale. building a turbo kit can be very complicated. unless your a great fabricator just buy one. i think there is a roush kit for sale now.

on the tranny swap... good luck

umm. i think that is it, lol.
